Dumb question - why is this? Why is Ames this way, and why do Ames residents act this way?
I'm not really sure. Its been mentioned many times before that this town has pretty few developers, so that creates staleness, but then there are a ton of city boards and active citizens who view Ames as a small town, and not a robust college town/small city.
JTS does not have any court side type of seats, in the Sukup area, they do not have to provide seats for wheel chairs down at the bottom, only access to both areas. So a person could be at the top of the bottom area or the if they have seats in the top part they have the ramps to get you up to that area. They would to have change little to nothing in the main bowl of JTS as it is fine with ADA rules. Now if they build suites down at the bottom like the Cowboys field, they would have to install a way for people to get down to that level.
Ames citizens are notorious for not supporting growth and change. If only the Iowa Legislature had decided back in the 1850's to place Iowa's land grant university in Ankeny, the University would be in such better shape right now!

The other option was Marshalltown... I can't see that having worked out any better than Ames. Dodged a bullet there.
There are people in this thread and other Cytown threads saying the exact same thing. Its not ‘Ames’, it’s a subset of morons who don’t realize they are morons.
All this discussion is interesting. But I think back to all the changes that have been made in the relative near time. The indoor practice facility, enclosed the south endzone (a huge change in the stadium environment), the the performance center and changes to the north eendzone. All of these have benefited to the success of the team.
But now, I would like to see some benefits go to Hilton. The planned renovations and concourse additions have been put off and put off. I think this deserves attention before the pressbox (and yes, I agree it looks small for the current stadium but it is not aeen by the TV viewers during broadcasts).

I live in Ames but don't talk to anyone so I cannot confirm this.
As long as pricing is the same for an entire section yes. If they do any pricing where the top of a section is different than the bottom than you have to offer an accessible option in both price ranges.
This is something a lot of people dont see. A lot of stadiums have their skybox in place of a second deck. ISU would have to build it above the second deck. And as you say that is a major issue. Not only that but moving our suites from the current location to a skybox would make them much further from the field and less valuable.
Would people be happy if we tore off the entire west side second deck and built a skybox? Probably reducing the capacity significantly?
That would be normal for Ames. Ames loves all that it gets from ISU, but hates to do anything to support it.
Well, every city/town has its morons. Ames though feels like a different level; as in, the town itself activity despises Iowa State. Honestly feels like the town is run by suckeye fans…
I guess that would be true, but I cannot think of a stadium that in a section the seats are priced higher for being lower down. Now if they come with other things, I could see it, like the floor seats at Hilton, in that case they would have to come up with a way to get you down on the floor, which I am sure they do. But any of the other seats in a section, putting a wheel chair at the top brings them into compliance with ADA
Every college town loves being a college town, it's just that pesky college that ruins it...
IMO the skybox suites are over rated for watching games. I’ve been in ISU’s and the Pro’s and they are comfortable but too far away from the field. The privacy loses the excitement of the crowd, it’s a subdued environment. Now I understand the ability to raise excessive revenue from the corporate types so it’s a no-brainer to build as many as the market demands but watching a game inside one is not the experience that the average fan would enjoy.
As a user of the accessible seating on the east side of the stadium, my only complaint is you can’t see either scoreboard. Don’t believe new scoreboards will fix that.
Hilton has a nice ramped entrance, but you’re greeted by the smallest elevator in Iowa. It’s the size of a dumb waiter and routinely packed with people in various levels of physical ability. Thankful there is an operator, otherwise folks would be going to the wrong level constantly. A larger elevator would still be packed full. Just fewer trips Up and down.
CY Stephens has two elevators, usually one is non-functional. ISU loves lines, to concessions, restrooms, JTS gates and elevators.
