They could put the sod in on August 1st and have PLENTY of time. It needs 2 weeks to root in a residential lawn getting no care whatsoever. I'm betting this is attended to and watered appropriately and fertilizer applications are spaced so when it goes down they can stimulate root growth to push it along quicker. Hell, they replace the field in high traffic stadiums between games a week apart.They became much more visible after all the rain we had awhile back. I think the rain may have washed away some of the soil?
I did notice some wet areas the day they put the lines in. Whatever the case is, they need to install that sod soon to give it maximum time to get established (as well as giving a more finished look for recruits).
Two weeks for shallow root growth, up to six for deep root growth. Plus, it’s a hillside.
And I’ve seen some horrible sod placement on commercial sites that “got no care whatsoever”. An apartment complex on Mortenson about twenty years ago comes immediately to mind. Just shriveled patches of dry grass an inch or more apart.
Of course, ISU Turf isn’t going to let that happen.
It definitely needs more than two weeks. But let’s not kid ourselves. That grass is going to pampered at all levels. Ain’t gonna be no sliding down a dirt slide on a cardboard box like the old days!
This is an important factor. They are going to want to get that sod well knit before they have people walking, sitting, as well as running and playing on the slope two Saturdays in a row in September.
Keep in mind these hill sides will be packed this year so there won't be a lot of sliding/playing.
Well, yes. Because if one kid pulled up the corner of a loose row of sod, you can bet they’d all be tugging at it.
I had the same question, looking from the webcam angle.
It’s hard to tell perspective, but it almost looks deeper than it needs to be. I wonder if that’s a way to eyeball and set aside the “topsoil” they need for the plaza, as opposed to what’s going on the hillsides?
I just noticed that they’re bringing in truckloads of fresh topsoil for the hillsides, rather than transferring from the central pile by the bucket. Relieved, seems much more efficient to me.
I was able to confirm with someone who works at FP&M that they will have a camera installed for the bridge project over University once we get closer to work starting
I requested that the camera be like the one in the memorial Union and users can control it

Good catch. I also saw a skid loader taking from the big pile over to the north side of the SPC. They must be finishing up that area as well.
love the picture from the inside of the new locker room! I also am happy to see the Jack Trice “stripes”....hopefully they make their way to a uniform next!

Guaranteed JP is watching with binoculars. Prob has a 2 way radio with the foreman cracking the whip when he sees too much standing around. (At least I hope he is)
I imagine this is tongue in cheek, but just like anything else a balance of attentiveness and allowing others to do their work yields better results than being a continual pain in the ass.
