I think the new RV lot is a great idea overall. However, it is not going to be conducive to big tailgates like ours unless we can get a spot on the edge (with a grassy open area next to it. The interior spots are going to be too confined, even if we get a pair of facing spots.

Not to sound like a d*ck but the current RV lot setup has a ton of wasted space. The new lot will do a much better job utilizing the lot IMO.

The biggest difference is the use case scenario. If you are just parking it is one thing but the environment around JTS is not a parking lot, it is the large gatherings and parking RV's in rows back to back and side by side won't create that.
Not opposed to the change, just a different perspective.

I will be willing to wager that there will be more space between RV's than what people are visualizing. JP's not an idiot, he wouldn't jam everything in super tight knowing how people utilize their space.

I think a lot of it depends on where one's spot is in the current RV lot as well as seats in the stadium. I used to be in D1 and D2 and even sitting on the east side it too far to make it back in time after a halftime beer. It looks to me that many on the east side will actually be closer to the RV lot.
This!
Doing a quick eyeball comparison using google map, I would say lot D3 is about the same distance with D1 and D2 being farther away.

Remember how our stadium and WVU’s were originally on the same plan? Just ran across this

which when WVU copied our stadium...why they basically made their press box the same size makes no sense to me...they should've learned from our mistakes

So, all this talk about the press box. Are they 'architectural' complaints or has ISU suffered from press exposure because of limited space? Just curious for those in the know.

Money talks and bullsh!t walks. From a monetary standpoint there is a crap ton of dead space in the current RV lot.

So sell me the “dead space.” Seriously, I hope they sell out the new RV lot and have enough extra interest to keep some of the D-lots open for RV’s.

for me, it's the architecture and small stature of it....I went to Manhattan for Farmageddon in 2019 and man K-State's press box is a work of art...that thing is amazing

Yeah, if you went from the north gate to D4, it's about 3/4 the distance than the east gate to the new lot. D3 would be about the same and D1&2 will have a shorter walk...although I'm sure those donors will end up being further back in the new lot.

So maybe it's less lazy and more uninformed. Probably the bigger issue is those people in the RV lots (generalization) like being the center of everything. They host big parties and like being the hub where all their friends show up to tailgate. Moving way across University takes them out of the middle of everything and moves them to the outside.

Press box envy. The new press box people think we need to make a giant press box the length of the field then fill it with mega suites that huge corporations will lease out for the season. I'm pretty sure our AD looks at the books and comes up projects that fit the budget and generate revenue, but the press box folks won't be happy until until they think we are in a NFL stadium.

The complaints seem to be entirely aesthetic, though not entirely unfounded. The only reason to change it is if/when there's demand for suites to fill it up. It'd look awesome to have it extend most if not the entire side of the stadium, but it would not be awesome to dump tens of millions of dollars into something with a negative ROI.

It looks like they are finishing up the formwork for this section of the outer ramp retaining wall. Wondering if it will be ready for concrete today?
