JJeff Injury Updates

For the record Kane played 37 mins the next game.
And scored 21 points. The whole point here is that every ankle injury is different. Kanes was a low ankle sprain, he couldn't walk after, and was in a boot and crutches. He somehow was able to play two days later. No one is shocked Jefferson can't go today, but no one knew for sure he wasn't going to be able to go.

Good analysis! The video shows his right leg hit the ground first which means it was able to absorb some of the shock. Otherwise, he may have torn ligaments. All of this moot if we lose to UK, but that's what this board is for....

I would say the opponent had more than something to do with it. We will see how good that offense flows without JJ and vs top shelf talent. I hope you’re right, and seeing Toure and Heise step up was exactly what was needed.
Definitely need Toure, Heise and maybe even Dom Nelson step up to fill the offensive gap. Thankfully, Kentucky is "meh" defensively: 109th nationally in defensive efficiency, 240th in forced TOs/possession and 57th in opponent 3 pt %.

Toure has shot a lot better the last few games. Batemon's a very good shooter. Hy-ZEE has had some really good games, including the last one, Buchanan is a consistent scorer when he gets the ball in good position. Our bad offensive games have been because we ran bad offense, not because we don't have guys who can score.
True, but Batemon and Heise typically come off the bench. The starting 5 struggle when teams play off of Toure and Lipsey to take Jefferson and Milan out of the offense. If Toure and Lipsey start hitting 3s it opens everything else up.

Sounded like there was an update on Jefferson injury during the game but I missed it- then during postgame whats his name, old Villanova coach I think, said Jefferson would probably be out next weekend.

Was there a less than ideal update on his injury?

I’m just counting on him being done . That way I can be happy if we get him back. Don’t want to get my hopes up

If we just force a turnover every possession we won't need to rebound

Turns out to be a solid strategy

The more weight on it comment during the postgame interview leads me to believe he won’t be ready by Friday but who knows. Seems like if he said he can walk on it with all his weight relatively with little pain would be more optimistic

The MRI should tell them if they can let him push through it or not. He will obviously want to play if it's just a matter of pain management, but have to make sure that there isn't structural damage.

Agree, if there is nothing structural wrong with the joint, he should be able to play by Friday. It will be sore without a doubt, but a week later, one would think he can play limited minutes, now his ability to move from side to side is going to be limited but I bet he at least attempts to play on Friday. If not the injury is a lot worse than what we have been told so far.

I'm more worried after the MRI reporting. It just seems doing an MRI three days later has to do with the rehab not progressing as fast as hoped. I know they are getting back to Ames and now have better medical access, but if it was progressing towards playing Friday don't know if they would be doing the MRI. Just my two cents.

MRI is standard operating procedure. Swelling has gone down enough to do an MRI, in just 3 days. Good sign

The training staff said they want to be sure he can safely return without risking further damage.
