Our son had two documented concussions and two that weren’t. He continued playing in college and after a broken bone in his foot and a fractured wrist, he decided enough was enough. Thankfully the concussions were not severe as McFarland Clinic in South Ames has a concussion specialist and he passed all the tests the following day. Some of the questions they asked though, I would have thought they would have told me to make an appointment!

Doubt Jeseroga's decision had anything to do with Sebolt. I've seen Sebolt coach & run a practice he's a good guy knows wrestling & cares about his wrestlers. Runs a tough practice not for everyone but lots of kids thrive there. For all the predictable whiners about kids starting "too early" know what else burns kids out so they don't stay in the sport? Sucking & getting their arses kicked. Kids that train a lot win a lot. Kids that win a lot keep going, generally. Not in every case is D1 the end goal as it seems here but blaming a youth coach is ridiculous, petty and sounds like jealousy for whatever reasons
Smh.

What age and skill level are your kids?
Upper elementary and Jr high. They've been doing the local school stuff but they have inquired about wanting to do more. We're up by CF...so immortal seems logical, unless I'm missing something

Sebolt's style training is fine and even great for guys 16 years old or older. There are 1/st graders training this way and that leads to health problems and burn out pretty early. He has not produced the high college AA guys yet. AWA or M2 would be better examples of doing development right imo.

Don't forget about Stritmatter who was a D2 champion (2x I think) before transferring to Iowa. He has had some great college guys come through his club in PA.

I feel like moen is doing great at all levels. Obviously immortals is doing good thing also and have been for awhile now. Big game is also growing but I believe connections with sebolt. You can achieve high levels without these clubs but look at the state tournament and I bet it would be hard to find kids that didn’t train privately at some point in time.

My kid did youth wrestling for two seasons when he was in 2nd and 3rd grade. There were tournaments every weekend and a few times the wrestling club sponsored buses for kids to attend and many did. They even had open mat time during the summer months. I thought it all was a bit insane.

High school friends of mine had their kids in youth wrestling for many years. They went to tournaments all the time and they always posted pictures of parents tapping kegs in the hotel rooms. The kids wrestling was nothing more than an excuse for the parents to party like they were in college. And none of them went to college.
I had a very similar experience with little league baseball.

Went to watch a relative and immediately after the games the parents were all hammering drinks in the hotel lobby.

It was an “a-ha” moment.

I don't think so. Navy athletes are enrolled at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. It sounds like Nate will be enlisting, which is a separate career track from enrollment at the academy.
This is correct. The athletes are at the academies. Spots at the academies are appointed the by senators based on high academic and extra-curricular achievement with letters of recommendation. The Naval Academy only accepts ~1,000/yr.

So far I don’t think there has been much. But the first really crop of Sebolt only starts with Schriever.

Ayala, Arnold, Keuter, Block are all up and coming. I personally think Ayala is going to be very good, and Keuter will be if he decides to wrestle.

Isn’t Kueter a Big Game kid?

Maybe they were getting hammered like they did in high school.

My 6th grader received an invite a couple of weeks ago to the Folkstyle nationals this weekend in CF. He really wanted to go but his middle school team shut down after districts and his wrestling club practiced the same night as his baseball team, so we said no more this season. He's been doing 2 sports since last summer, it was time to slow down.

He would go full time wrestling if we let him but youth wrestling is like competitive baseball and soccer, we could be travelling every weekend across the country but his mom and I would burnout first.

I've heard Pablo Ubasa has a good youth club as well in both eastern and central Iowa and if I'm not mistaken he was Sebolt's youth coach
I don’t think Pablo has ever been with sebolt. He is a passionate dude and keeps it small. I think he has lost several athletes to other clubs. Being elite shouldn’t be so expensive. My son was a runner up this year without ever going to private clubs.

Tunink is still going I believe. He has coached so many of those hammers while they were young. I think he teaches a more laid back style without much care about winning AAU titles in elementary school.I prefer this with young kids but to each his/her own.
Tunink is at High Altitude Wrestling Club and has been great. Relax, have fun and score points is his philosophy. Granted my kids are at the young end of it all so that fits what works best for them.
