Jerry Moses has passed away

Every time I see the Moses name, I think of the touchdown that JJ Moses scored on Iowa on the very first play from scrimmage.

Steve Looney, our OC, said he decided a week before the game that he was going to call a reverse to JJ on the opening play because he knew Iowa's defense would be so hyped up that they would over pursue.

Worked to absolute perfection.

That cutback at the 10 was insane!!

After the beating we took from East Waterloo, the only thing us boys talked about on the playground the next Monday was their older brothers said they weren’t going out for football if EW was in the conference. It was the most somber discussion we ever had in elementary.

That an insane stat line, even better than a video game stat line.

His senior year he averaged 27 points per (football) game, and spent a lot of 3rd/4th quarters on the bench.

Sioux City East, 28-14
Newton, 98-6
Mason City, 58-14
Cedar Falls, 46-6
Marshalltown, 62-0
Ames, 60-0
Fort Dodge, 56-7
Waterloo Columbus, 64-14
Waterloo West, 32-23

And that was before open enrollment. And it was during a time of record school enrollment.

I played basketball with Jerry. We roomed together at the State Tournament.
Fabulous athlete. I could go on and on.
But - just as great of a person. I think he is the only person I ever knew who ALWAYS had a smile on his face.

He was feeling poorly one day. Went to the ER. Had numerous tests and they said he was OK. He went home and died several hours later of a heart attack. His wife Shirley is a great lady, and they raised outstanding kids.

I could tell a million stories - but won’t.
