it's original design is poor. WVU's version corrected the mistakes. So the problem is the lower decks have a gradual incline and sit far away from the field. The upper deck is far away too. Ideally, they could have moved the lower level closer to the field and definitely put a steeper incline on the lower deck. With a steeper incline on the lower deck, this means the upper deck would be more on top of the filed rather than out and far away. It is not as closed in, intimate and as loud as it could have been. I went to a game at Boston College, they have two decks as well and the view from both decks is so much better, especially the upper deck.
It was a bad attempt at a joke. I assumed most Cyclone fans have heard hawk fans make that comment about our stadium. They said it more before the SEZ addition.
I don't doubt that BC's stadium offers closer views, but the upper deck at JTS offers great views of the field. It's been a long time since I've been in the lower deck, but 8-10 years ago, I remember thinking the first few rows of the upper deck were better than anything down low.
How many other college stadiums have you been to? Not all of the B1G stadiums are that great. Some plain suck.
I can't speak personally to the SEC — never been to any of their stadiums — but on TV, Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss St., Mizzou, Arkansas, Kentucky all don't impress me at all.
Really, we have very nice facilities that keep getting better. Bergstrom Complex and the new SPC are amazing, and the JTS upgrades IMO are great as well. What exactly do you want as far as facilities go?
We need to expand the press box to sell boxes and premium seating. that where the money is at in today's collage football. Run the press box from endzone to endzone, increase capacity and give people and businesses with money to spend a chance to spend it at JTS.
Barta must not have thought that when he saw the SEZ. What else inspired them to upgrade their NEZ? We all know every hawk fan would say our SEZ had nothing to do with their upgrade at Kinnick.

I 100% disagree with your opinion that WVU’s Milan Puskar Stadium corrected the problems of JTS. I’ve been to MPS every time ISU has played there. Their north and south end zone designs are horrible compared to JTS - south is much further from the field and the north does not tie in at all with the rest of the stadium. Our concession / restroom design is the best of any stadium ISU has played in since 1977 - I’ve been to all of them. All WVU. did better was to immediately put their press tower at the top of the stadium and lower the field compared to JTS so the first rows are higher than JTS.
our facilities are great, but the stadium is just not the good, the south end zone is great, but he base stadium, the original build is not that good. Heck, the design even has pulled off an optical illusion of looking smaller than it really is. I brought a Wisconsin fan to a game in 2012. He had never been to Jack Trice, the only thing he knew about it from watching on tv, is that it was really really small. He was shocked when I told him capacity (56,000) at the time.

I was specially talking about the sides. Yes I agree the Milan Puskar end zones are atrocious.
People don’t understand how many club seats there actually are in the stadium. I’ve been in both the skybox and the lower ones between the levels for games. The lower ones are way better unless your way down on the end.
We needed seats since we were selling out and had demand. If we didn’t bowl it in, what were our options?
According to ISU we have 480 club seats on the East side of the stadium, 37 suites between the press box and the ones on the West side, and then we added 3,000 in the Sukup area, that we also call club seats.
If you build it, they will come. Time to expand the press box, add more suites and premium seating. That is where the money is.
That wasn’t the narrative I remember. True; we were selling out every once in awhile, but Paul Rhoads’ squads weren’t exactly setting the world on fire at the time. There were still a lot of naysayers claiming it’d often be a bunch of empty seats.
You do realize suites are $40k+ per season? The supply was just filled a couple seasons ago with the end zone club.
I'm guessing no big projects until the conference disaster is figured out.
