Most DSM-area schools use a private company contracted to do their bussing. (Durham, I believe).

Ames does as well.

Around a dozen members of the Iowa State University Cyclone Marching Band had minor injuries after the bus taking them back to Ames from the bowl game in Florida was involved in a crash.

Same scenario happened to me in Elgin IL on a rainy night when I slammed into the rear end of a car that came to a sudden and complete stop on a highway.

I stumbled out of my car to see if the people in the car ahead of me were okay and they took off like a bat out of hell with the rear of the car dragging on the road. I stood there in the middle of the highway stunned and drenched wondering what happened. The police told me they were illegal aliens.

You don’t cause others to rear end you when you use your brakes. You are rear ended because others are following too close and are at fault.

You realize there is a well known scam that does exactly this. Get in front of someone, slow down to close the gap then slam on the brakes, causing them to hit you. It is the reason a lot of people have gotten dash cams.

There are a lot of other scenarios that can result in someone hitting someone from behind, including pulling out in front of them as is the case here.

No idea if that's what actually happened, but it's a way to explain how it would be the school bus' fault.

Generally I agree, though, that rear-ending is usually caused by following too closely.

My daughter is in the marching band. Scary for the kids on the bus that was in the accident, but all the kids are okay.

It’s a long process to get 350+ kids to Orlando and back. It was 31 hours to get down there. They left yesterday morning before 8 am and will get back to Ames around 2:30 this afternoon. They had expected to get back around noon. Great group of kids that are super dedicated to the Cyclone game day experience.

Love the marching band - it's part of what makes CFB great! Glad to hear everyone is ok!

The motor coach driver was not charged with anything is all I know. I guarantee Windstar Lines uses front facing cameras on their buses.

So the other bus leaving the scene does not reek of them possibly being responsible for the accident? If the Windstar bus could of avoiding hitting them pretty sure they'd want to hang around and make a statement on how they were not at fault

Yep, chartered 2 planes which ended up being a fiasco in and of itself - less than 24 hours in the state of TX for that one.

Yes, what seemed like a nice perk did turn into a mess with getting the planes there.
