ISU requesting more tickets!!!!!!

Tulsa vs Fresno St got almost 55,000 in 2005 and I'm guessing FSU didn't bring the majority. I'm hoping Tulsa fans make the trip this year as well.

Looking at their bowl history, that was also their first bowl not including the one in boise that no one wants to go to, since 1991. That mightve helped drive up sales.

07- GMAC, vs Bowling Green- 36,932
08- GMAC, vs Ball State- 32,816
These bowls fall a little below typical attendance for this bowl, which in other years has been in the upper 30s from what i can see (it is now the godaddy.com bowl)
06, 11 armed forces bowl- given this is just down the road, this should be a slam dunk for attendance for them. Alas, their two trips there fall below the attendance i can find in the surrounding years by a good margin.
Hawaii in 2010 is their other bowl, but that's impossible to analyze. It seems to have 2 attendance levels. Low 30s if hawaii isnt in the bowl, about 40k if it is.

If anything i might suggest that their bowl history as a whole is a bit negative as far as attendance goes, but this is just a quick review.

Tulsa is a small Presbyterian affiliated school with about 3000 undergrads. That makes it about 10% smaller in terms of enrollment than the size of Drake. They may be crazy about football in Oklahoma, but they aren't going to bring 15,000 fans to this thing.

Does the 12,000 tickets sold from ISU include donated tickets? I know a lot who have done that.

I think one reason why this game is selling so well is because a lot of fans last year weren't able to make the trip NYC last year, and many fans were hungry to get back to bowl game especially one that is affordable and close in proximity to Iowa.

Hell, for attendance purposes an upper end texas bowl would be good. If we ever made the cotton bowl (or to a lesser extent the alamo bowl) that would be another easily driveable game, and with that level of success you know fans would be coming in droves when they show this level of support for 6-6.

Its a fun time to be a cyclone. I dont know if 5 years ago we draw this level of support for a 6-6 team. Fans see the potential that something is building, and have jumped completely on board, from this example to season ticket sales.
Yep, and I thought even the HoD would give us a better turnout than Memphis.

The fan base is more excited, but it is also expanding.
Most schools are always going to have some fans regardless of success, a bottom number is more or less constant depending on enrollment. For some this number can be horribly low, but as a large state school in a major conference with no local pro teams, our number was relativly high. That two decade run that ended in 2000 left us at our bottom in regards of ISU football fans. A majority of those fans are still on board, and after 12 better years we finally have more fans coming in than going out.

There should be a decent crowd there. A lot of people that need to travel don't even need to take a day off work to go, or maybe one day tops.

I think you are right. A lot of the "anywhere but NYC" crowd is pumped to go somewhere and watch football.

Pollard just tweeted that we sold 12,500, compared to 8,500 in 09.

This is phenomenal news. If we are in the mix for a bowl in the future with pretty much any school in the conference other than Texas or Oklahoma, they will take a long look at us - especially Buffalo Wild Wings or Holiday as they are not in Texas.

It would be incredible if we could hit 15k, as that would probably mean close to 20k Cyclone fans in Memphis. That grabs the attention of Bowl reps.

Does anyone think we would have more if in HoD? To the average fan, the Liberty Bowl is more of a name.

I think to the average fan, the idea of a January 1st bowl would be really appealing. I think we'd have a few more for Heart of Dallas, actually. Nearly all of the people going would still be going, and some of our more casual fans (read: alumni) who live in the DFW area would also attend.

I think we would of had just as many with the HoD. The number of tickets being sold has more to do with its distance from Iowa then it does the bowl name, IMO.

I think there are some people not going because of the date and opponent but that is being offset by the travel distance and relative bargain of this bowl.

How can a school this small have such a good football program? Chicago has tons of high schools that have more students than Tulsa? I would have guessed at least 10k students.

This isn't high school where you have to pick your team from your student body. They recruit a full team to come play. Size of student body may have in impact on crowds, but not on quality of football team.
Baylor only has 12,500 undergrads
Notre Dame? 8400

Still, though, 3000 is pretty small for a team that has done as well as they have for many years. Do they have anything else, like basketball? Or women's sports? Or any students who aren't athletes?

Tulsa has sold around 5k, I bet we end up bringing around 7500 to 10,000.

Quite the extrapolation, by that logic we should have between 20-26k ?

Actually it is surprising how many end up showing on game day based on school sales, I saw a tweet earlier about our 09 insight bowl sales being like 9k. And it sure seemed like we had a hell of a lot more, at least double that at the actual game.
