ISU/Iowa Predictions

First thing this forum needs to do is, Get the negative posters out of here.
125-McDonough, Fall
133-Ramos, T.fall
141-Marion, Tfall
149-Cozart, Dec
157-StJohn, Maj
165-Sorenson, Dec
174-Lofthouse, Dec
184-Fahler, Dec
197-Lira, Dec
HWT- Telford, Fall
I'm taking Cozart because of the way Jake Ballweg wrestled over the weekend and because Carew is all talk. Evans is good and is really going to be outstanding but I like Sorenson. If Evans beats Sorenson, Then Iowa is going to be awfully hard to beat this year. Fahler is a redshirt freshman. I was really impressed with him. Coaching isn't responsible for injuries, so you can't point a finger at KJ. But, IowaState could have done better in selecting a coach. This isn't freestyle or greco roman, It's folkstyle.

Thinking optimistic -

I'm thinking we will get 4 wins - Sorenson, Spangler, Beard and Gibson.

Finch, Moreno, Cozart and Shafer will lose by decisions

133 and 141 - Iowa will get pins

ISU 12 Iowa 24

Love the clones but having a hard time seeing we are any better this year than last. I'm hoping Gadson gets the medical redshirt and those shoulders heal. He will be a fun one to watch at full health and very sad this happened to him.

Post them here. I just typed mine up and didn't realize just how ugly this might get.

125: McDonough by major (4-0)
Finch doesn't have near enough to keep this to a decision. McDonough is that good.

133: Ramos by major (8-0)
We are overmatched here and Ramos has a ridiculous gas tank. Could be a match term.

141: Marion by pin (14-0)
Total mismatch.

149: Ballweg or Carew by decision (17-0)
We have a shot here. Should be a relatively close match.

157: St. John by major (21-0)
St. John is just too much.

165: Evans by decision (24-0)
Evans is one of the best wrestlers the rest of the country has yet to hear about. He pasted Ed Ruth twice in high school. He's a stud. Close match and one we can obviously win.

174: Lofthouse by decision (27-0)
Lofthouse is a go-er. Spangler will gas. This will be a better match later in the year, one we may win should we get Iowa at national duals.

184: Gambrall by decision (30-0)
Asking Gambrall to be ready and healthy is a lot to ask for. If he's not ready, Beard will win this match by decision over Wagner or Fahler. We have a shot at a major if Gambrall doesn't go.

197: Shaffer by decision (30-3)
Lira is built like a tank and could give the slightly undersized Shaffer some trouble but we should win this one.

HWT: Telford by decision (33-3)
Should be a good match and could go either way but Telford will open eyes this year.

I predict more injuries, defaults, and total defeat . . . the hawks roll . . . 77 to nothin.

I don't have a problem with negative posters...well, I do, but sometimes it's justified. What I have a problem with are people saying "I don't really follow wrestling, but...." and then go on to give an opinion which they just essentially said doesn't mean jack.

If you don't know much read and listen and then when you think you're ready to give an opinion read and listen some more.

Seriously. I mean, look at some of the negative things that don't get jumped on - our lower weights having issues with aggressiveness and fundamentals, Gadsen maybe getting tossed in to early, even Spangler gassing (even though that is due to only just returning from a long injury). These are all legitimate questions and issues to bring up and nobody is shy about discussing them. It is just all the "I know nothing about wrestling, but let me tell you what is wrong" posts that get called out.

Looking at your posting history, I am fairly certain this is a lie. Whenever there was a question, you most definitely went with your REAL favorite team.

I think it is sad that people are so jaded about what is in reality a total rebuild of a program, and the reality that cael left nothing behind, that they played along with a hawk fan.

As for the meet, iowa tech should absolutely dominate the score. I want to see our guys get healthy, continue to improve, and get ready for March.

Amen!!

Wow, has ISU wrestling dropped off that much that we can't even compete. Maybe that is why Cael left he saw the writing on the wall.

Sorry, but you don't know squat about this team if this is what you really think.

You can guess all you like...but it will be closer than you think!

I am going with what NEICyFan says. I was going to take my son to see the dual but he said he didn't want to go watch his favorite team get their heads handed to them by the Hawkeyes.

It would not surprise me to hear that the home crowd advantage was for the Hawkeyes even though the dual is in Ames.

Do you read your own posts? Tell the negative posters to get out and then bash KJ at the end. Classic.

I read my posts bcclone. There was no bashing. Evidently you need to look that word up. Disagreeing with the selection of a coach is not "bashing". I'll try a little better next time in word useage. Sure would hate to see you annoyed.

I try to take off the homer hat when I make predicitions. My heart and even my head say Sorenson but my gut says Evans. I stepped out and picked the mild upset.

Evans is a stud. Even if Sorenson wins on Sunday I think Evans will finish higher at the NCAAs.
Evans did not look that dominant in his wrestle off for that weight. College is a whole different ball game. Sorenson will win this one, and I think it will be worse than people expect.

22-12 Iowa. ISU matches up OK with Iowa. I see ISU winning at 165, 174, 184, 197. With potential wins coming at 149 or HWT.

You realize he was wrestling against a quality opponent, right?

We'll right this one down. You might be right about the last part, but I doubt it.

Evans probably didn't look dominate because he beat a pretty damn good wrestler. He beat Nick Moore who was a 4 time state champ. When was the last time a 4 timer from the state of Iowa couldn't make the team as a redshirt freshman at Iowa or ISU? Probably never so that says something about the guy ahead of them.

I would even go as far as saying Moore might be better than Sorenson.

Gambrall probably won't be going for Iowa at 184, so here is what I think it will be like, and I'm not 100% sure of the lineup ISU will have so some of these guys for ISU could be wrong but probably won't change the outcome.

125: McDonough MD over Finch 4-0 Iowa
133: Ramos TF over Cash (if not a fall) 9-0 Iowa
141: Marion MD over Mayfield 13-0 Iowa
149: Carew Dec over Weatherman 16-0 Iowa
157: St. John MD over Moreno 20-0 Iowa
165: Evans dec over Sorenson 23-0 Iowa
174: Spangler dec over Lofthouse 23-3 Iowa
184: Beard Dec over Fahler or Wagner 23-6 Iowa
197: Whoever ISU has since Gadsen is out Dec over Lira 23-9 Iowa
Hwt: Telford Dec over Gibson 26-9 Iowa

Different match results but overall winner here I think, final 27-9.
