These infractions are totally disturbing, actually really piss me off. I've supported ISU football for well over 50 yrs. I was looking forward to this season. Then, along the way, find out that those whom I am supporting don't care about the team - only about themselves.

I'm guessing the gambling apps have terms and conditions that allow for monitoring, especially of suspicious activity. That was probably what tipped them off. However, I also wonder how many resources that were expended to take down relatively smalltime activities. If I had to guess, they were hoping to dig up something a lot bigger, and once they sank that much time and money into it, felt like they had to do something to justify it.
If their best receiver was throwing games, then I shutter to think of the size of the fat stacks the rest of that sh**** receiving core has been hammering the under into oblivion with.
EDIT: I advise any other Hok who wants to go down this path to tread carefully... because the jokes write themselves.
In listening to Miller & Condon's show on KXNO over the past couple of weeks, their contacts have indicated to them that the entire investigation was kicked off by a report from the mother of that Iowa baseball player who "retired" recently (can't remember his name right off). Apparently he had used her identity to create an account on one of the gambling apps and when he went to load funds onto it, it triggered some kind of notification that went to his mom. Maybe a credit monitoring service or something, not sure. Then she reported it to the authorities, not knowing it was her own son doing it, and when they investigated they found out and got DCI involved and then widened the scope from there.

Any time you have a four star from Iowa, you have to recruit them. It's a bad look if you don't even make an offer and then not recruit them very hard. HD blew up in camps and had all the physical tools to do the job. He just lacked other qualities it appears now.
Joke all you want, but having a starting WR bet the under for a game he is playing in is very disturbing IMO.
So I get it's pretty messed up to be betting on games you're playing in, but I would think the punishment of betting against yourself or betting spreads should be much worse than betting your team to outright win.
Th whole situation is extremely disappointing. If the infractions were limited to one or two players, you could contend that they were isolated in nature and not reflective of program. However, when at least five players are involved, including many leaders, this argument is harder to make.
How the coaches and players respond to the situation will say a lot about who they are. As many have said before me, ”adversity doesn’t build character, it reveals it.”
I believe the coaching staff and team will get through this ordeal and be better off in the long run. CMC is a high character individual and I have the utmost confidence in him to lead the program through this unfortunate situation.

They are both wrong and deserve lifetime bans IMO, but yes betting on yourself is a lot better than betting against yourself. But they both affect the integrity of the game.
Oh I agree both affect the integrity of the game, but I wouldn't be for a lifetime ban if betting on yourself to win. It's not changing your approach or effort or letting your team down.....still deserves a steep punishment but not as bad as tanking...just my 2 cents though.
Agreed. That's what I said in my earliest post. The only time I would consider not a lifetime ban is if you bet on yourself/team to outright win. Yet you still deserve a very harsh penalty for doing it. Otherwise, get the hell out for life.
