ISU Gambling Megathread

So "physically gifted" is the only criteria for leading a Division 1 program?

QB is the most intricate position in sports.

Wasn't he a 4 star, highly recruited?

You take those type of players at ISU unless there's huge red flags. I don't recall anything coming up.

Sometimes it doesn't work out like tons of other players.

I thought it was a little odd that Iowa didn't offer him.

Wasn’t he the first quarterback in the state to throw 10,000 yards? Has anyone done that since him? Also threw the most career touchdowns. Not sure if anyone has passed that yet either. Sure it wasn’t a huge school but he had an impressive resume.

I understand all of those things. BUT, had he gotten Duggan in 2019, I'd be willing to bet* he might not have scored Dekkers in 2020. So please explain how my statement is off base.

Fixed it for you.

Just from watching the video you can tell he's a total meathead. He didn't look like a very good leader on the field either last year.

If his parents encouraged it then it means we aren't dealing with people very high on the intellectual scale either. What parent in their right mind would allow something like that knowing the potential consequences?

There's a reason guys like Brock Purdy make it in the NFL and guys with a big arm and small brain like Dekkers end up flaming out like this.

You think Brock would have ever been caught on camera knowingly something that stupid?
I was thinking the same thing. Apparently, It's a pretty stark comparison that can be made between the Purdy family and the Dekkers family.

It also makes me wonder just what Brock thought about Hunter and handing the reigns over to him...

I mean, not to rag too hard on northwest Iowa, but Hunter did go to school in Hawarden, right? West Sioux?

I grew up in rural southeast Iowa, and I knew plenty of boneheads there. I imagine there’s more around West Sioux, just guessing.

Sorry if I missed it in this thread.

So the rumor was 5 football players bet. So far I have only seen 2 current & 1 former player named.

- Does that mean rumor was wrong?
- The names released are only guys who tampered or were underage?
- So any future names might only be guys who broke NCAA rules but not criminal laws?
- DCI still working it?

the bolded. The remaining players didn't break any Iowa laws apparently.

Theoretically the remaining players could have all bet on college football games which would make them ineligible. Of course it's also possible they all bet $5 on an MLB game and they won't miss any games.

I just can't imagine any parents being this clueless regardless of where they are from.

I am not defending Dekkers. He did something stupid and borderline unforgivable. He is gone and should be forever. Did CMC think he was a meathead in high school? Maybe, but he wasn't some kid with a police record and a total troublemaker either. There is a difference. I have no doubt CMC has had many meatheads on his team that have turned into fine humans, but knowing someone is a talented meathead doesn't mean it will be known the talented meathead will do this.
