Actually, ISU's defense played very well. There is no way the ISU offense can play as bad as they did against UNI. If holding penalties can be reduced by only half, first downs can be doubled. I put plenty of the blame on the coaches for Lanning miscues and then not giving him the support he needed when he predictably failed. Coaches will realize Lanning can be a bigger part of the game passing and running if they give him some correct play calling and hold him accountable. I blame the coaches for not doing their part to settle the team down and establishing some confidence when it was needed. The lack of MC engagement on the sideline was painfully obvious. We don't need to establish the run to pass. Without the penalties, Warren will get 100+ yds. ISU 31- Iowa 28.

I'm normally a ridiculous optimist concerning our football team, but there is no way I'm going into this one expecting a win after watching that last game. Our defense may keep us close, but if we can't sustain some drives with our running game and get them some rest, they are just going to get worn down.

I'm hoping we can cause a Nebraska-like turnover-fest and make this one ugly.

Two years ago we got curb stomped at home to start the year against North Dakota State, then lost by four to #20 Kansas State. Were 0-2 headed into Iowa City and I thought we'd get smoked. We won 20-17.

This has become a game where the old adage really is true...anything can happen. At this moment, like so many other years, I think we get handled. But history says it's going to be a low scoring game. Since 2004 only twice has the winning team in Iowa City had more than 20 points (2010 and 2006).
