ISU baseball team

My conspiracy hat is on. Who proposed this bill? Is this legislator an Iowa fan? Making Iowa State field a varsity baseball would only take away resources from our other sports, we'd never be competitive.

But this sounds about as plausible as that law to annex the southern counties of Minnesota. Waste of time and resources even talking about it.
You can take it off. He grew up in Washington State and ended up at Northwestern in Orange City on a baseball scholarship and stayed in the area (he represents Hull). He's just a guy that loves baseball that doesn't understand the economics of how it works.

Looks like was actually a really good NAIA player. .362 career average with 114 RBI in two years. Led the league in hits and RBI his last two years per wikipedia. Good for him.

baseball people are weird.

parents spend $15k a year on travel baseball, your kid plays 200 games a year, and if all goes well gets rewarded with 1/4 scholarship to D3 Southwest Tennessee Tech - and everyone thinks its an amazing accomplishment.

ISU may be closer to the Twin Cities than a few Minnesota schools but all of the Minnesota schools as well as UND are closer to Roseau, Warroad and Duluth which all produce college and NHL talent.
Duluth/hermantown definitely Produces a lot of talent which most end up as bulldogs but I think you are vastly overestimating the amount of talent that comes out of warroad. They produce quality not quantity. Warroad has produced 80 D1 hockey players in their history. In 2023, there was a total of 215 Minnesotans in D1 hockey. Warroad and Roseau play in the lowest division of high school hockey.

Just going off population demographics twins cities has the highest population density in Minnesota. Their schools play in the highest hockey division. Even the Wikipedia page on Minnesota hockey says this: “Unsurprisingly, as the largest population area in the state, the Minneapolis-Saint Paul region is home to a majority of the players from Minnesota.”
