have zero offensive game between the paint and the 3pt line? watching us play OU, OSU and now WVU, it became clear that we almost never shoot a mid range jumper, and rarely ever actually make them when we do.

i guess it doesn't matter as long as we win. just doesn't seem like we even try the mid range game.

That's the worst shot in basketball.

This. A mid-range shot is statistically a terrible shot to attempt. 3 pointers and in the paint are where you get the most bang for your buck.

Expected value on an 18 foot jump shot is way lower than either a layup or a 3 point shot. It's not a lower percentage shot than a 3 pointer but it's expected value is lower.

Hoiberg has made it clear he isn't a fan of those shots so it's not that surprising we don't shoot many.

On the contrary, our opponents shoot a lot of mid-range shots and I'm glad we have forced them to take those. I never mind giving up a long range two.

I would have liked Long to pull up at the elbow or even a little closer rather than trying to go the rim on his drives. Getting to the rim isn't his game IMO.

He didn't choose the best of times to drive in, the paint was pretty crowded on his drives.

He needs to decide between taking it all the way to the rim or doing a jump stop pull up when he gets in close. He seems to put up the shot from too far away for how fast he is still moving on his drive.

If we were taking shots between the paint and the 3 point line, you'd be complaining about why this team doesn't either try to drive it in under the basket, or take it out for the 3.

It's all part of the plan based on advanced statistics.

Sure its a great shot if you're good at it, but nobody on our team is. I think Isaiah Taylor torched us with mid-range pull ups, but he's not on our team.

Our offense is literally designed to take as many layups and 3s as possible with very few long 2 point jumpers.

And our defense is literally designed to force them to take as many 2 point jumpers as possible.

That would explain it.
