Who are the four current Big 12 teams who have never played Notre Dame? Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

Of that group, only Oklahoma State surprises me. The other three were never consistently relevant. Now, however, it would be fun to see the Irish square off with Iowa State and Matt Campbell — one of the hottest coaching names in the college game.

Additionally, it’s a little sad that Bill Snyder never got a chance to face the Fighting Irish.

The article notes that they last played OU in 2013, in Norman and that ND won... which is not correct. The 2013 game was in South Bend and OU won. The game in Norman was 2012, and the Irish did win that one...

Every single ND home game was on national TV since 1991 (NBC contract). No team should have gotten that kind of exposure when no one else was getting it.

This was the birth of my hate for ND football.

Nebraska was right there with them. Most of their games were on ABC and Nebby was able to sell that to the coastal recruits families.

The pastor at my in-laws' church (in Iowa) refers to Notre Dame as God's team in his homily or other comments from the pulpit at least a few times per year.

Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous.

I've always kinda wondered why there was so much hate directed at Notre Dame. I can't say I've ever encountered ND fans being more obnoxious than the typical fan base. I just assumed it was either because they are associated with a religion, because they had a solid run back in the day, or because they are on tv a ton.

My dad has always been a big ND fan, so they've been my second team behind ISU. I went to a game with my brothers several years ago and had a blast. The people I encountered were all very friendly. It was odd walking around their campus with it being treated like a tourist destination. That has to be weird for the students.

I liked the simplicity of their stadium, even if it is woefully outdated in regards to many other places. The rest of the campus is ok, but I'll take ours over it every single day. I will say the basilica is beautiful, and the mass after the game was a cool experience.

Are you kidding me? There are a lot of Notre Dame fans who have never even been to Indiana or even to the midwest.
Meh, I don't see anything wrong with it. If you don't have a college team and didn't attend a D1 school why not cheer for ND if you're Catholic? Same for BYU, imo...or TCU...

Better than the dipsh^ts who say, I'm from IOWA so I root for IOWA (like ISU isn't a viable option). I've heard that many times, btw.

I went k-12 to Catholic school and never really gave a sh%t about ND. I was an Iowa fan back then. I'm just meh on them in general. I'd rather play any of their rivals; Stanford, USC, MU, MSU, hell, even Navy before them.

Slap the sign...what a douche.

I've been to several Irish games over the years (Home, Away and Bowls). Not a fan of the artificial turf though. IMO, Notre Dame Stadium was much better with real grass. Hopefully, ISU and ND get to play in the near future. 'Twould be fun!

The only way I would like to see ISU play ND would be to beat them and piss off that douche Brian Kelly.

This is exactly why I hate them. Some pretty crappy seasons in there and back then the options were quite limited for college football TV watching on Saturdays.

To have them monopolizing an entire network every single weekend. Especially when they had several pretty average to sub-average seasons just seemed unfair.

I would have rather seen some games that 'mattered' regarding the final season rankings back before playoffs and a championship game.

Meh. It's only the home games, and NBC doesn't show other games. So, who really cares? It actually keeps ND from being on the primary CFB stations during the year, as if they did not have home games on NBC, all of those other games would be on ABC, CBS, ESPN, Fox, etc. taking slots away from other teams like they did BEFORE the NBC contract. Wake Forest @ ND on NBC does not effect Iowa State TV appearances.

Yes, NOW it doesn't matter. But it gave them a huge recruiting advantage back when there were only 3-4 networks and thus very few hours available for College FB. That's when I developed my dislike.

That would have actually made it less TV for everybody else if they were taking spots on the other networks instead of being on NBC back in the day. Notre Dame was going to be on TV regardless of station. At least, on NBC, it wasn't at the expense of other teams or other games, as it was ND or nothing. Meanwhile, ABC, CBS, etc. it would have been ND OR Oklahoma, ND OR Alabama. ND OR Michigan, etc. Not trying to change your mind about not liking ND! lol. Just saying, that it cleared up a more limited TV space for other teams on the other channels. As far as having a recruiting advantage, they have always had that.

So ND is entitled to be on regardless of the quality of their season/performance. Yes, you did not change my mind about not liking ND, LOL.

I wouldn't say I have vehement disdain for Notre Dame, but I developed Notre Dame Fatigue gradually over time. That was nothing directly caused by the monopoly on N(otre Dame)-B-C (that was merely a symptom). It's various things along the way that did it (I won't get into it in this post).

Oddly, when I first started following CFB, back in the good ol' '70s, I was a Notre Dame fan (to an extent). That was long before the NBC arrangement, ND was among the powerhouses with games on TV a lot, so obviously I'd be likely to root for some of those teams (and maybe against others).

For the most part Catholics referring to ND as "God's Team" are tongue in cheek, The loyalty to ND is partially a handed down type of thing. In my house growing up my father checked to see when ND was on and planned the weekend around that. He told us when he was a kid when ND was near the goal line they had to kneel and pray in front of the radio.
This stems in some part for the Irish Catholics being treated (as many other immigrants) like crap. ND was a lone bastion of hope. Most Domers are now still fans but more realistic.
Love em or hate em they are good for college football.
Actually Boston College, was started as a Catholic answer to the Ivy League. Yes it looks like at some point all immigrants were screwed to varying degrees.
By the way, don’t argue with a ND fan, we will argue with you all day long. Even if we are wrong.

I've followed ND for over 50 years. I've heard them referred to by many things, but never 'God's team'.
Would love to see us dominate the Irish in a bowl game. It would be great for our program.
