Iowa @ Wisconsin

Just jumping into this thread.

1. I think announcers may have gone a little to overboard with it

BUT

2. Remember, Dakich was given a death threat by an State Patrol officer. While he shouldn't let that effect him, I'm sure that making national news got his attention and was probably on his mind last night.
Missing jimlad syndrome in this post.

I like his little head pat before the jab to the eye. Classy move. It's amazing he can do that given his stub arms.

I must not watch enough B1G basketball, is purposely making contact with players faces normal or something?

I was referring to the Hayes poke, not the Kaminsky one. Woody wasn't patting Hayes down, he was just face guarding him like players do all the time.

I partly agree with this sentiment and appreciate the humor. However, the lopsided nature of the game is part of what makes the actions so bush league. It's not like an elbow thrown in a heated battle, it's just childish crap. Imagine if he actually injured one of their better players doing his stupidity.

Don't get me wrong - I think the actions were decidedly bush league, and Fran should definitely get Woodbury under control before he hurts someone.

I thought the announcers went a bit overboard on Woodbury, but in their defense, they really needed SOMEthing to talk about...

That's what it mostly boils down to, which is why it's fair to say Dakich crossed a line. Being bored doesn't mean you should something like this and try to vilify a kid on national television.

When have you seen Hogue go full bush league when ISU is losing? Because that's what I'm talking about. There's playing hard and crossing the line and then there is what I've seen Iowa consistently do in the few times I've watched them.

It's not unique to them but most teams have enough leadership to keep the cheap shots under control. Obviously others don't.

You not remember WV game last year? I'm not saying what Hogue did was any more or less intentional than this, but some could argue similarity.

Hogue's play in the WV game last year and at other times is "out of control." That's the distinction, not that it's better or worse, but it is different. This was some combination of weird gamesmanship and frustration.

Splitting hairs. Crossing the line is crossing the line. Woody could have poked his eye out. Just like Kane could have to that BYU player. Hogue could have done some serious damage when he drop kicked that dude. It's all similar in that it is unacceptable.

Its hilarious that most Iowa fans I know constantly rag on Woodbury, but the second Dakich does it, they attack him like crazy on Twitter.

I think Hogue has gotten technicals two games in a row now? A trend he needs to stop. The one last night seemed to be jawing mostly after he got slammed hard on the other end of the floor and no foul call. Letting this "physical" stuff go by the refs will lead to getting guys frustrated and potentially injured. Not happy with the way games being called at all for any team.

Reminds me when that SI reporter said Ferentz was one of the worst 5 coaches in the country. They all talked about how much KF needed to leave and as soon as he posted that they were defending him with January Bowl stats.

Kane you could argue was making a play on the ball, Woodbury not so much.

I'll admit I've been thinking about criminal law too much lately, but the mens rea are very much different.

Its like saying Ndamukong Suh stepping on someone is the same as a safety getting called for targeting on a WR over the middle. They both are outside the rules and can cause an injury, but calling them different types of acts is not splitting hairs.

He was out of control, he wasn't intentionally hitting someone in the face. If your a hawk fan I'm sure you could find the similarity, but there's not much there.

You're really getting desperate now. If you paint anything with a broad enough brush it could be called similar.

He got a technical against KU? The only one I recall is that BS one against Monte.

But otherwise I somewhat agree. Dustin seems to get a head of steam built up against someone on the other team then is on a mission to rough them up. It's the way he plays - and it's not really a bad thing. Just one of those where it's easy to cross the line, or at least the ref thinks you've crossed the line. The T last night didn't seem to be anything too severe (whatever jawing the two players were doing not withstanding). Seemed to be a really weak double-T

I'd have to go back to the DVR and watch it again, but from the upper deck and on the video board replay, it looked like the KSU player had a hold of Hogue's wrist after the play was over, so Hogue ripped his arm away. Maybe he said something while he did it, but I thought that was a pretty weak Tech.
