Iowa State vs Iowa

We may not win Thursday because the fact is we RARELY win there. Rivalries are just weird.

But if we play defense like we've seen, I like our chances. Fact is...when Iowa plays any team with a pulse, Murray is basically a no show.

Clemson: 4-17 and 0-5 from three for 10 points
TCU: 4-14 and 2-6 for 11 points
Duke: 3-9 and 0-3 for 8 points

That's a stunning 11 for 40 overall (27%) and 2 for 14 from three (14%).

I don’t get how this has been admonished as much as it has, ISU has only won 4 times in Carver since 1996, 2 were under Fred in 2010 and 2014.
This is where you don’t give Otz enough credit. Why would anyone looking back be surprised McDermott, Prohm, and Morgan couldn’t lead us to wins in Iowa City. Plus this Iowa team just stinks. Not impressed with what I saw today.

Frans not stupid. He knows if they get beat in Iowa city Thursday all hell will break loose.
But on that stage you can’t just fold up shop when it’s a 10 point game. How many opportunities do they have to draw eyeballs like tonight? Terrible for recruiting.

I listened to most of the game tonight. Thursday won't be easy for the good guys, but I didn't hear anything that spells insta-defeat for us. If we play hard and crash the boards, I like our chances in CHA!
Unfortunately I think we will get into foul trouble and early. Iowa is great at creating contact. And with our all out aggressive defense, that’s not going to add up too well.

A Larry Eustachy conference championship team lost in CHA. I’ve made the same mistake of saying this Iowa team stinks many times over and ISU should just be able to show up, out talent them, and win in Iowa City while rising above subpar coaching but it’s a weird place.

****, we beat Aaron White at his game (granted, we had Niang). But I do agree with your general concern in this area. We will certainly give up FTs.

This particular Iowa State team isn’t going to
out talent very many major conference teams. Iowa has talent. They’ll probably come out of their shooting funk and draw a lot of fouls to win if.

Yep ISU will have like 27 fouls and Iowa will shoot 70% from three.

I remember going into the Iowa City and White absolutely scolded us. He made Melvin Elgim his b#tch. I put zero stock in the Duke game. This will be our first real road game. Iowa will remember what happened last year and play with their hair on fire on Thursday.

Iowas starters didn't play hardly at all in the final 10 mins

Saving them for Thursday?

12 points isn't a bad looking loss and the way the B1G gets slobbered on it won't matter come March.

They're gonna go all out on Thursday for sure.

The home team almost always wins this game right? That is always my baseline expectation.

Iowa looks like they have some talent but they'd get bullied in the Big 12.

That said, repeating but in a one game scenario in December Iowa will ball out.

Kris is not Keegan. That Duke game went about how I thought it would go.
I was impressed with Iowa’s freshman guard. He made some plays I haven’t seen an Iowa guard be able to make in awhile

We will see a different Iowa team with different energy on Thursday. I’m sure they have this game circled. Will it be enough though? Even with our flaws, I think ISU has a better overall team.

From what I've seen of them this year (mostly last night, but parts of other games too) and in Fran's tenure, they're going to get after the boards, they're going to play hard, and they're going to test your defense as they are aggressive. On defense, they are fairly poor, though their zone is a pain in the ass as always if you aren't patient enough to make a couple passes. Once that is done though, wide open shots abound.

I think if we play our normal defense, and pass our way open with patient offense, we'll be fine unless they're just hitting every open shot they get.
