I see Drake named SDSU's former coach as their new head coach, who was a TJ assistant there who took over as HC when TJ left for UNLV. If I have that correct, is anyone aware of this connection between the coaches and benefits/advantages in landing Cluff? Any disadvantages?
Drake hiring him doesn't change anything, IMO, but yes, that was a big reason I thought we had an inside track to getting Cluff

I am surprised he took the Drake job - I would have thought SDSU -> Drake was a lateral move

Drake is a better job. I wonder if Rock will end up at Drake. He’s from SD and Henderson might be familiar with him since he coached at SDSU

Nance was a huge success compared to Tricky. Those were my years at Iowa State. Horrible basketball!

The 1977-78 team had Dean Uthoff, Chuck Harmison, Steve Burgason, Jon Ness, John Tillo (all from Iowa), Andrew Parker, Charles Harris, Leonard Allen, Bob Fowler, Ricky Byrdsong and six other players that I dont think played much in their ISU career.

I really thought he might have something going after the ‘78 season. 2nd place in the conference was a major step up but he just couldn’t sustain it. And then . . . Here’s Johnny!

TJ & Henderson are really good friends. Maybe they could work out a Cluff for Rock trade??

Harnisson Burgeson Utoff played quite a bit. Ness was pure shooter not sure why he didn’t play prob defensive liability. Tilly was mop up player

Andrew Parker was one of the very best players for 2 of those years in the Big 8.

So we have Mitchell, Toure, and Pleta entering the transfer portal a year from now if you go by the projected lineups.
I think you have to adjust the way to evaluate Fr classes now. For a team like ISU next year depending what happens the rest of the way in the portal ISU is needing 1 or 2 of the Fr to contribute. And yes, the others will transfer. And maybe even one that contributes transfers for a better role or more money.
It would be great if ISU could have more Matt Thomas or Naz Long type situations, but it rarely is going to be best for the kid to stick around given the current CBB environment.

Gilbert, Jones and Jefferson.
Gilbert was available for the NCAA Tourney? Huh, maybe I was watching the wrong men's tournament. And you think Jones can play the point without sacrificing his offensive efficiency and that Jefferson is a PG?

Still feels like another bucket getter is needed. Not convinced Rohde would be that guy.
When you factor in increased roles for Jefferson, Milan, Heise, and add Williams, Batemon, and Rohde, I think scoring is fine

Likely a step up from what we had with Gilbert in conference play this year imo. If they add Cluff too, I don’t think it’s the offense to question

Imo it’s the defense that is unknown in terms of being top-10. Gilbert’s best attribute was he was good on both ends. We could still use more length or footspeed in the frontcourt, and I’m not sure any of Williams, Rohde, Batemon have the on-ball defense of Gilbert

Agree with you about defense, that was a problem at the end of the season. Definitely need more quickness from the guards. Watching some of the teams this week, there are some lightning quick guards. Need some dudes that can cut off penetration and disrupt passing lanes.

I'm with TPups when it comes to offense, they need another consistent scorer. Increased roles doesn't necessarily equate to increased production. Milan needs to become way more consistent. Jefferson as well, along with cutting down on the turnovers. Curtis bailed the team out in a lot of games with his scoring. And when he got cold then it was a struggle to score. The BYU game in KC is a prime example. Curtis regressed to the mean in the 2nd half and ISU lost it's lead.
