***Iowa Pregame Thread***

Line is now Iowa +3. History has shown us that what happens in the games that lead up this game means Jack ****. If it goes over a FG it'll be tempting to take Iowa.
Using history to determine what this year’s edition of ISU football will do is nonsensical.

Have you not been paying attention?

I'll take it!!

This game reminds me of when we had Brock, Kohler, recievers everywhere, McDonald Montgomery and we were supposed to win somewhat heavily at home and lost.

Seems like you're mixing different ISU teams together and ISU has iirc never been favored heavily in this game.

It could play a role in ISU making the CFP if we lose the conf title game, but that is an long shot scenario. Unlikely that the big 12 gets two bids, and for this scenario to play out, the conf title game would have to be our only loss.

Otherwise, you are right. This game has never mattered less to us, on paper, than it does this year.

H

Two teams would have to emerge as 1 loss teams. I’d struggle to think they’d leave a 1 loss Big12 team out as that would mean 12-0 through the regular season. So a 12-0 ISU vs an 11-1 ASU would get ISU in regardless. Not sure if the 11-1 team loses.

IF we can win this week, that sets up a real possibility of two undefeated, top 10 teams facing off in Ames on November 1st. That would be one hell of an environment.

Even when we come into the game looking like the far better team so far we are only 2.5 point favorites. History is a burden even to the gamblers.

Last year I said we would win because Iowa wouldn't be able to replace DeJean. This year we will win because they won't be able to replace Higgins. Hopefully we come out in attack mode and not scared like last year.

At what point will Iowa fans realize that it’s the offense and scheme that sucks and not the QB?

44 passing yards for this $2+ million man, lol.
I don't know how they keep convincing QBs to go there. They completely ruined the careers of the last 4-5 that played there.

McNamara was a solid player at Michigan. He didn't magically become terrible when he went to Iowa. They made him terrible. 1,500 total passing yards in 2 years. For a guy making $1mill+/- per season. Unreal.

I pay attention to history. When we have looked like crap against the Sister's of the Poor and Iowa looks like world beaters the game doesn't turn out like people predicted.

Feels like this team is different but to think we'll dominate this game based on how the teams look so far is ignoring history.

Of course fox noon kickoff is here. We're cursed, we've already lost.

It's crazy how far we've come as a program that they're here and it's not even a story anymore.

I think we’ll win, but I’m going to pee in our Cheerios a little bit.

Do we know if we’ve beaten anybody who’s any good yet? We think K-State’s performance against North Dakota was just a letdown after losing to us in Ireland, but what if they’re a 6-6 kind of team? We think South Dakota is one of the best teams in FCS, but what if, after all their losses to the portal, they aren’t even a playoff team?

This was the second game in a row where the pass defense didn’t look great. Things tightened up after the game got out of hand, but for a while there in the first half it felt like South Dakota was moving the ball at will through the air. We still don’t have any sacks. With Iowa’s struggles passing the ball, you’d like to think we could commit to stopping the run and make whoever their QB is try to beat us through the air, but I’d feel a whole lot more comfortable if we were getting to the QB. If it’s a low scoring game, a big play or two could be the difference.

I still have some concerns about our offense. Carson Hansen had 9 rushes for 19 yards against a rebuilt FCS defense. Dylan Lee looked good but it was all in garbage time. Our TE’s have been excellent, but we still need more production from our WRs at some point.

Again, I like ISU to beat Iowa, but I’m expecting it to be a nail biter.
I share your concerns. It would be nice to blow them out though. We haven't really done that since like 2005 (if that qualifies).

**** Iowa.

Feels like if there was ever a year we beat them by 2+ scores, this would be it. But alas, the grip of El Assico is strong.

Heart says 27-13 Cyclones.

Head says 17-16 Cyclones. It will come down to the wire.

I think it goes something like "You know you suck, we know you suck, everyone knows QBs here suck. So you can come here and suck and meet expectations. And we will likely win 8 games, get a bowl trip. What, not good enough -ok, Here's a couple Mil."

Meaningless but fun stats.

Rocco had more yards passing after the 1st play of our game yesterday than Granowski had the entire game.

Iowa averaged 3 yds/pass play. So in a sense, they are opening things up when they run the football all the time.

Yep and Kirk and Phil will be yelling at their players all week while CMC doesnt have a ton to yell about. Also stock on Rocco at an all time high, Phil gonna try to bait him into an early INT.
