Iowa pees down it’s leg

They need 1 corner out of the portal. They'll be starting a completely new linebacking corps but that's one position they develop really well (and they really only need 2, which helps). Phil Parker is an amazing secondary coach, I have faith that he can turn one of those guys into a good cornerback, I just think it's asking too much for him to do it for both spots.

Obviously it's all moot if the qb play remains as poor as it has been since 2020. I can't believe I'm pining for the days of Nate ******* Stanley but here we are. The run game was really good against Missouri so I have no reason to think it won't be pretty good next year. I think the receivers are fine but Vanderzee really need to hit the weight room. Sullivan is a good package player but he can't be the starting qb next year.

I trust Phil Parker to field a competent defense. I think Tim Lester is a competent play caller. Kirk Ferentz is still a maddening game day coach but the team culture seems to be pretty good. None of that matters if they try to trot out a bad qb again. There are still good qb's in the portal we'll see if they get one.

I’d bet the farm Iowa wins between 7 and 11 games, most likely 8 or 9, on the back of a mediocre schedule and a good-to-great defense and ST. A great season largely coming down to how the ball bounces in several close games. That’s football.

Iowa has hidden behind a weak schedule since Nebby joined the B1G. There’s not another team in the league that has had had the schedule Iowa has. The big difference between now and like 3-4 years ago is that Iowa used to be notorious for beating up the soft teams and sneaking up on a good team or two. Now they absolutely fold against anyone with a pulse. I’m actually surprised Iowa fans aren’t celebrating not getting blown out…
The hawk fans I talked to last night feel like Sullivan is the second coming of Jesus Christ, with respect to what they’re used to. I told them the point Hassel made in the 10 minutes of his reaction show I listened to that it’s all good that he’s competent but there’s zero chance he’s healthy for 7-8 games at the VERY best with how he plays. You have to find another one and Kirk as proven to have next to no ability to do that.

I listened to the Hawkeye radio broadcast while at work.

In the pregame, Angerer said “you can tell who the Iowa fans are because they have longer beards and are double fisting their beers.”

Dolph added “Double fisting! I love it!”

I hope someone snipped that clip.
I have the audio clipped if anyone can help me on how to upload an audio file here. I've tried and it only let's me link to a media file, not attach it.

Their defense will not be what it was even this year. Losing an all American at the most important linebacker position is huge.

If Sullivan is the starter next year, KF is NOT going to want him to use his legs so much - at least not by design - and risk an injury. I believe Hassel also alluded to this on the show as well.

I’ve been indifferent about Ferentz over the years since he is basically bland toward ISU unlike his predecessor Fry who reveled in running up the score and then gleefully rubbing it in post game by declaring “it’s a Hawkeye State”. Ferentz has been very successful in sending OL, DL, LB & DB’s to the NFL but for all that success his QB & WR development is shockingly abysmal. The last 3 QB’s have been Spencer Petras, Deacon Hill & Cade McNamara. I challenge anyone to find a consistent supposedly top 30 program that have identified that talent to be their QB 1’s In succession. I don’t recall any D-1 program who trotted out a 6’4” 270 lb OL as their QB1 such as Hill. Sullivan may stop the trend but he’ll never live down the brain cramp QB sneak.
Sullivan is bad.

Then he’s not going to be near as effective and you’re working closer to McNamara 2.0. His legs are what gives him his juice.

Parker is an amazing secondary coach but turned a 5 star safety into trash.

but he’s constantly cheering and rooting during the play even while dolphin is trying to spit out what is happening. He needs to be muted until it’s actually his time to talk.
This is exactly what I was referencing.

Which “good qb’s” are you referring to?

Can predict Iowa's season next year right now, frankly - predict every season as long as KF remains there:

1) Handily beat a couple of patsies. Some obscure player will have a huge game or two and be held up for Heisman contention. Starting to check price of CFP tickets.
2) Lose to ISU. Start preliminaries for KF lynching.
3) Beat wimpy B1G Brethren or two. Checking those CFP ticket prices again.
4) Get demolished by B1G top division team. Pitchforks are now sharpened.
5) Beat another B1G West pretender. New QB or RB has a decent game. Should of played them earlier, would be undefeated.
6) Lose to a lower end B1G Team. Torches lit.
7) Make bowl game against their doppelganger SEC pretender. Chance to tune up the team for a real run next year.
8) Lay an egg in the bowl game.
9) Wash/Rinse/Repeat

It was my understanding this year was the mediocre schedule and things get quite a bit tougher next year.

Then again, predictions are out the window about who’s gonna be good next year. The Hawkeyes do have playoff teams Indiana, Penn State, and Oregon next season, plus road games at Iowa State, at Wisconsin and at USC (Ferentz is horrible with games west of Lincoln).

The non-conference slate is truly a murderer’s row, of course, with Albany and UMass in addition to the Cyclones.

Their schedule gets a lot tougher next season, they get Penn. St, Oregon and USC, plus their games vs Wisconsin, Nebraska and ISU are all on the road next season, instead of home games like they were this season.

I don’t pay attention to Iowa enough to know their schedule. That appears more difficult than their normal schedule, but we’ll see
