Iowa pees down it’s leg

Haven't beaten a team that FINISHED ranked since 2019
Not only haven't beat a ranked team that long, but they are only averaging a little more than playing two ranked teams a year. 9 teams in 4 seasons. EIU is going to miss the Pillow Soft B10 Least division. Could not happen to a better fanbase.

At some point those things aren't fluky if they keep happening.

Iowa is generally very good at swarming to the ball on D and is real disciplined on special teams. Other teams aren't as fundamentally sound so a fumble or lack of discipline on their end lead to the special teams issues etc.

I'd expect the same next year no matter who they're losing.
A girl can dream, can’t he?

How long before Tim Lester loses his shine? We've seen this story play out before. Iowa hates their OC, he leaves, they hire a new one and he's the golden boy for a season or two, and then the fans turn on him, he leaves, rinse/repeat.

O'Keefe, Davis, Ferentz, and now it's Lester's turn.

Enjoy your time in the sun, Tim. It will not last.

O’Keefe should have never been let go IMO. It was pretty clear who/what the problem was.

Listened to Downs and Hassel. Of course summary was ISU celebrated the bowl like the Superbowl.....it was merely an exhibition for Iowa...if they win, great....if not, doesnt matter.....and they said the W for a bowl shouldn't count.

Murphy just posted an Iowa player crying in the postgame...so they DO care? Lol

I do think there is a shift happening (Jaylin helped point a lot out) that will expose their style of play and weak schedule and we will have the chance to consistently play for titles. Love it. And bball....well, that's not even a thing.
Iowa has hidden behind a weak schedule since Nebby joined the B1G. There’s not another team in the league that has had had the schedule Iowa has. The big difference between now and like 3-4 years ago is that Iowa used to be notorious for beating up the soft teams and sneaking up on a good team or two. Now they absolutely fold against anyone with a pulse. I’m actually surprised Iowa fans aren’t celebrating not getting blown out…

What can I say? Not enough intelligent life forms in that situation to even reason that out one way or another.

Brainwashed from an early childhood? Maybe even starting to cheer for the TOE when they were beating up on St. Mary's School of the Blind by 50 every year and thinking that that was normal...I really don't know.

Certainly cannot be their coaching staff and the kids they recruit or pay to play.... especially at Quarterback!
There is a family from there that are huge hawkeye fans. Would have Fred flintstone all over. Then a couple grandkids wrestle for ISU and they try to deny their past hatred. Always amazing how they can twist themselves into whatever narrative they want.

They need 1 corner out of the portal. They'll be starting a completely new linebacking corps but that's one position they develop really well (and they really only need 2, which helps). Phil Parker is an amazing secondary coach, I have faith that he can turn one of those guys into a good cornerback, I just think it's asking too much for him to do it for both spots.

Obviously it's all moot if the qb play remains as poor as it has been since 2020. I can't believe I'm pining for the days of Nate ******* Stanley but here we are. The run game was really good against Missouri so I have no reason to think it won't be pretty good next year. I think the receivers are fine but Vanderzee really need to hit the weight room. Sullivan is a good package player but he can't be the starting qb next year.

I trust Phil Parker to field a competent defense. I think Tim Lester is a competent play caller. Kirk Ferentz is still a maddening game day coach but the team culture seems to be pretty good. None of that matters if they try to trot out a bad qb again. There are still good qb's in the portal we'll see if they get one.

Castro was out for the Michigan State game and boy was it obvious. They're also really going to miss Jay Higgins. Missouri did a great job getting open even with their backup wide receivers, so it'd be nice if we could exploit that next fall.

Ethan Hurkett is using his Covid year to return. So they only lose Yahya Black and Deontae Craig. Max Llewellyn is going to have a big senior year for them so I don't anticipate much of a dropoff along the defensive line.

Logan Jones is also coming back for a sixth year so they'll return RT, C, & LG from this year's front.

Wetjen will also be using his Covid Card, so let's not kick it to him.

If we can't stop the run it won't matter. Hopefully the defense spends all summer & fall camp working on tackling drills.
Just how many kids do they have returning using a Covid 6th season? Boy, the NCAA really screwed up with this Covid deal. I could see giving the seniors that year an extra season, but now we have kids playing the covid card when they already redshirting that season or not getting playing time. I expect them to open it up to 5 years to play 5 with the new scholarship rules before long.

Stopping the run has a lot to do with us missing a ton of guys… outside of a couple big runs Iowa didn’t really move the ball on us on the ground.

The Covid year was going to hurt kids at some time. By putting the Covid year out there, it affected the freshmen classes from that time the most. Players thanking Covid when they cut the limit pulled a scholarship from a freshman who was going to get one. They needed to allow you X amount of Covid players and then reduce it annually to even it out.

Playing poor to bad quarterbacks has allowed their defense to play run the entire game, and set up their DBs to play zone, allowing them to get a break on poor passes for INT's. They have always struggled with playing against a QB that can throw the ball down the field, like Missouri did yesterday, they just do not see a lot of quality QB's in the B10. With the additions of the West Coast teams, they will see more, and it will be interesting to see how they respond.

True but those EIU kids still played 8 games that season, that did not count. The kids taking that 6th season now, we allowed to redshirt two seasons instead of one, when most of them would not have been playing anyway.

Hell the kid that returned the kick off back for a TD yesterday is still not on scholarship and is paying his own way and he has been their return guy all season. If I was him, I would be putting my name in the portal in the spring if I was not on scholarship the 2nd semester starting next week.

Oh yeah...I know exactly who you are talking about. 'Twas the greatest Hok-dom at its worstest right there until recently. I avoided that family like the plague - and still do - for what it's worth.

Excellent summary. And I feel the next few years we will show we are actually better than them as they keep getting exposed.

There’s a thread on HawkeyeNation where none of them can figure out why the Big 12 played vs Big 12 in Alamo Bowl.

Completely unaware it’s because their greed killed an entire conference.
No no no you got it all wrong. The B12 did that by expanding!!!:jimlad:

Yeah Parker’s results speak for themselves. I think the biggest concern with the secondary will be that the LB’s are going to take a step back. For Iowa’s scheme to be effective you really need all three layers playing at a high level. If the D-line can create pressure that will certainly help.

Was Missourit offsides? HAHAHAHA

Where is the ball and where are the Missouri players' hands? They are looking at the marker to gain a first down and saying they are offsides.

Iowa fans are delusional
Look, I hate Iowa as much as the next guy, but this is unfair.

No way anyone associated with the Hawkeyes was paying any attention to the marker to gain on that play.

Maybe Sullivan was told he needed to get to the marker and that is why he went sideways. He was trying to run over and touch it? Hawkeyes aren’t bright.
