Iowa/Iowa St.

Some thoughts reading this...

-- I thought Michigan's strategy of letting Garza do whatever but ensuring that Iowa is not going to get many threes off on offense was sound.

-- Letting Haliburton freelance off a bad shooter -- Connor -- on occasion would be fun. TH is way longer and faster than any of their guards.

-- Nixon needs to be on Weiskamp to shut him down. Piss him off. He seems like one of those guys who doesn't play well when he is frustrated, unlike some of their others.

-- Garza trying to shove Solomon sounds like using a lawn tractor to try and push a mile-long freight train. Even if Garza gets around him a few times, a few good, hard, clean fouls are probably in store for Garza next as a friendly gesture. It is nice that we have enough depth with our big men that we can play physical and not have to worry that our backup plan if Georges picks up his third in the first half is Simeon Carter.

-- I can't wait to watch the Hawkeyes' big men chase Conditt up and down the court. Our break is probably going to scare them out of crashing the offensive glass.

-- Haliburton as your zone-breaker in the middle sounds like fun, too.

-- Jacobson would give Connor a little of the Ryan Express if a fight broke out. Nixon would probably go into the stands and come back with a folding chair.

They'll go after Conditt for sure. Likely Jacobsen too.

McCafferey's the 'sweep the leg' type.

Only Jon Miller would call giving up 91 points a brilliant defensive performance.

I don't know about brilliant, but you would hope that Teske would at least be able to contain Garza. If that was the case, and they covered up the 3 like they did, UM would have won by 30. It was a smart strategy at the very least. I have zero doubt that Solo and Conditt can do better there than Teske did...even if it is partially Garza just not having the best game of his life. I mean, it doesn't take an all-world player to hold him to under 40. Whatever he does, you have to live with it, because we absolutely cannot have one of their scrubs going off for 6 threes like they usually do against us.

Oh, and if I were Prohm, I would be in the refs ear about Pemsl being chippy as soon as they hit the court. Pemsl is a flat out goon and will definitely be out there trying to start something.

Also about the forearm 'creating space' that Bobo, Garza and and mini-Fran do. I didn't see the Iowa/UM game but if Garza gets called for offensive fouls like he should have in the clips I saw, he's less likely to drop 40.

Our previous struggles against Iowa's zone is that we don't make them move and we settle for bad shots early in the shot clock. We don't have to hit a bunch of threes to beat the zone, we need to work the ball to the middle and things open up real fast.

I think teams have more success getting it to the corners and short corner against Iowa. Either way, I agree we have to move the ball, but I prefer skip passes and ball fakes to getting it to the middle. When the defense has to move laterally, it opens holes to drive, kick, or score.

when did Woodbury and the rest get additional eligibility?

We're a poor shooting team and have shown questionable shot selection. It's not a huge leap to say we could struggle against a zone in a halfcourt game.

I think Iowa State wins. i think Iowa State is better than Iowa. That doesn't mean I can't say their press and zone defense could give us fits. I know that makes me a Hawkeye fan to Cat.

Ill take Iowa having the lead going into half time. We make adjustments and win by 6 after we pass them with about 5 minutes left. Then Hawk fans claiming they won 35 minutes of the game and the refs cheated them with 5 minutes to go.

I don't really think the garza/solo match up is in our favor - Garza will hit threes since solo isn't the best defender outside the lane.

I just hope we actually learn how to inbound the ball against the press. nixon/bolton's cutting was embarrassingly bad last night.

Hoks will be crushed. Bobo will hobble off, and Garza will get a few more stitches.

They did win by like 30 right? With NBA teams scoring upper 70's at half, I think traditional stats are out the window.

The more a team scores, the more possessions the other team has so at some point even if good defense is being played lots of points can be scored by default.

It's like how they say the NBA plays no defense--they do, it's just really hard to defend people that are that good with the basketball.

Teams with good guard play have been able to get to the rim at will against Iowa.

He's .429 on the season, granted on a small sample, but has averaged a make a game. He is .331 on his career.

To say he can't shoot 3s is a blinders-on take.

Didn't know he was doing well from 3 this year I just knew he was under 30% last year. My bad
