Iowa Falls

Over June there will be a different town celebration every weekend in one of the towns close by. My buddies and I kayak the Iowa river into Steamboat Rock and and night hit up the neighboring towns.
The aforementioned Sauerkraut days holds a special place in my heart. I worked for a radio station in Hampton that was sponsoring a kraut eating contest and the goal was to beat me (when I was in college, was 300+ pounds playing Oline) No one came close. Pound of kraut and 2 brats in 64 seconds

How many hours is the kayak trip from Iowa Falls to Steam Boat and do you just leisurely float it, fish on the trip, etc? Some friends and I are thinking of doing an overnight kayak trip down the river sometime this summer. Maybe start in Iowa Falls and end at Hwy 14 by Albion, but none of us have ever done the trip between Iowa Falls and Steamboat.

That would be a long trip. We often did Alden to Iowa falls - short. Or Iowa falls to eagle city -- a few hours.

If the river is high we usually put in at Eagle city by the winery. Normal conditions we put in at the Hardin City bridge. We usually take it pretty slow until the beer runs out (You only have to learn that lesson once) and it takes around 6 hours to get to the campground in Steamboat Rock

I drove by this for the first time several years ago and thought that there should be a competition between the two.

You can drive east a little ways on 20 to see the "Hell was made for deadbeat moms" sign and wonder what that the story is with that guy.

My old roommate from that area always claimed that the county fair up in Hampton got surprisingly decent country singers for their grandstand. Not my thing, but watch for that if you're a fan.

I've spent a lot of time in Iowa Falls. I'm up there every 4th of July with my grandparents. The parade and downtown area is very good. During the rest of the year not much happens. I'd have to guess the average age of people is around 60 lol. It's a nice town, just not a lot to do.

That sign wasn't up when we went up to my parents' over Easter so maybe the guy got remarried or something.

Yea, I even recognized some of the names, I just don't care for country music all that much.

Thanks, That's probably where we would stop and spend the night. I was talking with one of the guys and I'm still not sure how to pack enough beer (never should have sold the canoe).

I'll need to start another thread on kayaking the IA river. I don't want to get this one off track.
