Iowa Dual Discussion

  • After Iowa State won the Big 12, a Cyclone made a wonderful offer to We Will that now increases our match. Now all gifts up to $400,000 between now and the Final 4 will be matched. Please consider giving at We Will Collective.

I'm guessing both Lee and Woods go
If Woods goes, I still think Swiderski wins, but I would predict a DEC v MD as I had before. That would change my team prediction to 16-15 ISU.

If Lee and Woods go, my team prediction is then 21-13 Iowa, but I could easily flip 157 to make to 18-16 Iowa.

Basically…if Lee doesn’t go, this is a TIGHT dual. If he does…the final score will not be as close unless we flip a match I don’t expect, and nothing else crazy happens. Basically what everyone else is saying.

Does Iowa have any true freshman that they would use up one of their events against us? I think we have Gaitan listed at 174

IF we could somehow pull it off, this would be wayyyy more satisfying to me than ever beating them in FB.

That said, I don't see it happening. Without going weight by weight, I'll say we win 4, they win 6 and that's that for the dual.

I'd say the only clear favorites are at 165 (ISU), 285 (UI) and 125 (UI, if Lee, ISU if not Lee). Should be a real barnburner but I'm liking our chances.

Agreed, I just think he is more likely to go than Lee. I truly think if Lee is going Brands has fear deep in his bones and wakes up every night to nightmares of Dresser being the reason he gets fired.

I can see it now, all the sorry excuses and things the sqwaks are going to be saying. “Fire Brands” “When can Spencer take over?” “Who is our next head coach?” “How much will it take to get Cael?” “Fire M*, he can’t recruit” “they are lucky we didn’t have our full line up” just some of the things that will be said after cyclones beat their ass. I just hope Spencer doesn’t lose his career to another injury by returning too soon. He could be an Olympic champion one day.
Wrestlers were confused because they haven't faced Iowa State in Carver in nearly 10 years.

The poor me attitude that goes through that entire athletic department is truly unreal.

I think it's:
1. If both agree, then it's a go.
2. If not, coin toss, and winner gets to choose starting weight.

Winner of the toss has the option to choose starting weight or odd/even (2nd period choice).
Loser of the toss has the remaining option.

It's all handled right after weigh-ins.

I wonder what Iowa would want to start at if they won the toss. 133?

Not exactly sure.
I think best for us is hwt or 125. Make them decide on Lee fast and allow Coleman and the Cuban to see if they need to bonus or what.

I actually think Coleman is just as big a favorite, if not more than anyone. Assad hasn’t proven anything.

Was just about to say the same thing. Assad has done nothing notable in college that would make me think anything other than Coleman being the clear favorite.

Dual week. Time to fire up discussion!

25 and 41 the obvious unknowns. I’ve stated before but even if Lee doesn’t go, Kysen is so sporadic who knows.

I fully expect Lee and Woods to go in this one. We need to win the toss ups at 133, 149, 157, 174 and 197 to have a chance. I also am more worried about 165 than most on here. I think PK is AA good.

I'm going to try and do this conservatively and without my cyclone bias (With Lee in parenthesis)

125 - Kysen Dec - 3-0 (0-6)

You just never know what Kysen is going to show up.

133 - Teske dec 3-3 (0-9)

I think we can get this one but the issues with cutting might make a big diff here. And we don't really know who the guy is yet.

141 - Swiderski dec 6-3 (3-9)

I don't care who it is for them. Swiderski just feels built for this kind of match in that kind of environment. God help them if it isn't Woods.

149 - Murin dec 6-6 (3-12)

I really feel like Paniro can win here and it wouldn't shock me at all. This might come down to a controversial call that goes Iowa's way. The Kinnick crowd will affect this dual in a couple of places and I am guessing this might be one of them.

157 - Siebrecht dec 6-9 (3-15)

See 49

165 - Carr dec 9-9 (6-15)

I don't give a crap about this Kennedy hype.

174 - Brands dec 9-12 (6-18)

I want to trust Broderson but I just can't yet. Brands is whatever. This is a big big toss up.

184 - Coleman maj 13-12 (10-18)

Honestly wouldn't suprise me if we see a fall here. Coleman is a pinning machine.

197 - Bastida dec 16-12 (13-18)

This match won't be that close I would bet the score ends up being. Yonger is built for this kind of match. Warner is obviously good. Warner is also trash.

Heavy - Cass maj 16-16 (13-22)

Sam will keep it closer than expected and a dec wouldn't shock me. He's taken a step this year.

It's going to be an absolute nut-buster. There are so many ways this thing could go. I don't know if we can win if Spencer goes but it's not impossible (gotta flip at least 2 of 33, 49, 57, 74, all are winnable). I pray to god it doesn't come down to us losing a team point or something stupid. Or it goes to criteria. That will be annoying if that's how we lose.
