Interim/New Coaches Coming Up

Both Tech and TCU will be similar to Texas, punch them in the mouth and break them mentally. Then you can just coast. This will be especially a factor against TCU, their last game of the year and it will likely be colder than a witches t*t in a brass bra up here for those boys.

tech fired a 5-3 coach to hire a baylor assistant. makes no sense to me

For whatever reason we have had Tech's number even back to CPR years but their results this year are better upon inspection than what I would have guessed. I think I saw Longhorns hang 70 on them and just assumed they sucked in all games but they have had some solid outings.

They were mostly positive from what I remember. I think everyone was ready for a change, but still unsure about Campbell being able to make the step up from Toledo to a Big XII team. @tolfbfan came onboard shortly after the new was announced and tried to convert everyone. He was more sure than anyone here at the time! Turns out he was freakin Nostradamus.

Is Campbell for real? Guy seems almost too good to be true.
There are used car salesman in this profession. He and his staff will be the opposite of these type guys. This staff builds relationships with their players and the players families. Most of this staff knew my wifes name and always greeted us with hello and a smile. They will do the normal coach speak, but in an odd way I'm convinced they believe everything they say. They have developed a plan from recruiting to gameday and will follow it. My other son also played D 1 football, so I listened to many used car [football] salesmen over the last 7 years.

Basically the two big TTU boosters wanted a say to hire "their guy". Wells didn't have any real TX connections and their new coach does, boosters and fans will give him much more slack than Wells if he doesn't hit expectations immediately.

I wonder what our longest conference win streak is against any team?

We are at 5 straight vs Tech going into this one.

We are at 7 straight vs Kansas after playing them.

I know KSU was pretty bad pre Snyder, I'm guessing that might be the only conference streak that could top our 7 straight vs Kansas?

JM4CY, Eggplant huh. I will take that as a complement for a 62 year old who doesn't need the blue pill.

What was the reaction in general on this board after Campbell was introduced?

I think during the Campbell hire, many on here wanted a coach who had been a head coach and not just a coordinator. So with that, I think most were happy with the hire.

I said this in the thread about who else in the big 12 gets bowl eligible, but IMO Tech is losing out despite the coaching change. TCU could play a little better with the interim and different QB but we’ll have three games of film by that point and there’s no way we drop that one if it’s for a spot in the championship.
Also, agree with the earlier post that you gotta hit em in the mouth and they’ll fold like Texas.

Aren’t interim coaches just assistant coaches? I would think play style wouldn’t change much. They’re not going to totally change base defenses or offensive styles. Maybe might be more aggressive in different situations, but that’s also often the case in the end of season when a team has nothing to lose anyway.

I haven't seen this anywhere yet so I'll say it.

Joey McGuire leaving Baylor is a plus for us - as far as I can tell, it leaves Baylor as one less coach for the rest of the season. I assume it'll also have an effect on their practices and normal weekly schedule. Of course someone will fill in for him, but I'm sure there's at least a slight negative effect on Baylor. This is important, because we need them to lose for us to have a shot at the CCG.

It also could be a plus for us this next week against Tech. If nothing else it's a slight distraction for the entire team. We'll see how it plays out.

Mostly true except the mini nut cup reaction when CMC was bringing all his Mount Union "BUDDIES" along. lol
You are always gonna have people that go against. Those are your negative Nancy's. Every fan base has them.

My understanding is that McGuire is staying with Baylor at least into December, and will not take over any duties (beyond recruiting) at TTU until he completes his time at Baylor. It's a weird situation that I think may be an even larger distraction than him just cleanly severing ties.
