In-state FB recruiting

In two years Ferentz will have to leave the program for health related issues - mark it down. There is no possible way that any human can carry around that massive amount of ego for this long without eventually breaking down.

I bet he has great calves.

The subject is clearly germane to ISU recruiting in Iowa vs. our #1 in-state competitor, UI.

The funny thing about CF is that just like at The Grove (and at home) you don't always get what you want but you do get what you pay for.

I think that there was plenty of in-state recruiting talk in this thread. But I agree, even though iowa's situation plays a big part in the dynamic, the main point was to talk about the Iowa HS prospects.

Who does everyone think will get the next D1 or BCS offer? Bevins? Kilfoy? Burnside? Shaw? Bernstine?

Kirk is just 2 years removed from an Orange Bowl victory yet CPR is the one on the upswing? Comparing the 2 programs over the past few years I really struggle to see how ISU is on the way up and Iowa is on the way down. Please explain that to me.

Also, it's not like the program will implode once Kirk leaves. I have no doubt in my mind that his replacement will be someone capable like Stoops or Bielema.

I can explain that. First, I don't know how you can argue that ISU isn't on the way up. From where they were under Chizik and the last Mac year, ISU is in a LOT better shape and they're building depth and talent. Second, I would argue that iowa has seen its peak under KF (Orange Bowl win). I think that he'll move on in a few years. But just because I think that ISU is on its way up and iowa is on its way down doesn't mean that the programs are close...ISU's valley is a long way from iowa's peak.

BTW, do you REALLY think that Stoops or Bielema would leave their current jobs to coach at iowa? I'm sorry, I just don't see that happening.

I think Kilfoy is the next one to be offered not sure by which school though. I also kind of hope ISU offers Malloy. I think both schools are gonna wait it out til Bevin's senior year to see if they want to offer him. I don't think Burnside or Bernstine gets offered by Iowa or ISU, they'll likely end up at UNI.

Word around the campfire is that Malloy was/is interested in ND but really liked UI's staff. I'm not going to hold my breath on a Heelan kid, they never commit to ISU if offered.
 
Wow, apparently my posts about Hill were blown waaay out of proportion. I was in no way being a **** (as Mikem stated), and was not saying that Hill had gone back on his commitment. In fact I mentioned that I expected him to stick with ISU. I don't like seeing kids flip-flop, and it seems like he's stuck with ISU. All I did was suggest that it was not an iron clad lock like the one poster made it seem. He was coming off as though he had info from Barkley himself about this decision, and all I did was suggest that perhaps he was not being truthful. How many times have you read a message board where someone claims to have inside info only to find out that person is full of it? I was just cautioning people not to breathe a sigh of relief based on one message board poster. If Hill was solid with ISU I don't know why he wouldn't just come out and say so. If he had told anyone of relevance that he was sticking with his commitment it would be all over the place by now. I have no idea why some people got so up in arms about that, but clearly I came off different than I intended. From personal experience I was very excited about Cesar Guerrero committing to Iowa based on "inside info" from message board posters who claimed to be in the know on his decision. Clearly, they were wrong, and I admit I am a bit jaded when it comes to that kind of stuff since then.
 
Iowa is NOT a better football program than either Wisconsin OR Oklahoma.

The only reason that Bielema or Stoops would even consider Iowa is because they played there. And I doubt that Stoops would still consider it at all. Maybe Bielema? But he's got a better gig in Madison IMO.

I wouldn't say that Wisconsin is better than Iowa, I would say they are relatively equal. Oklahoma on the other hand, is leaps and bounds above Iowa and should never be compared.

Wisconsin FB > iowa FB, not even debatable. You poll college football fans across the country, analysts, etc on this question and the vast majority will say Wisconsin has the better program, national attention, everything. The only fans that don't believe this are out of iowa city and the few Cyclone fans who also love the hawks (puke).

I'm not trying to defend Iowa as much as am trying to defend my stance. Over the last 10 seasons Wiscy holds a small advantage in total wins 88-85. In my eyes (ISU grad that is a religious ISU fan but was raised in a Hawk household so I don't "hate" the Hawks, although some of their fans **** me off) Iowa and Wiscy are pretty much mirror images of each other. The play the same style of ball, chase the same recruits, and over the last decade of play are separated by only three wins. On top of that Iowa made two BCS bowls and won one compared to one BCS appearance for Wiscy where they lost. To me that is pretty equal.
