I State logo

Face it, these decisions are purely marketing. If the change was to incorporate true colors the change has been a failure to date (many different colors from team to team in the same year).

As for the logo...I'm an old guy and never heard our University referred to as I-State. We were always Iowa State or ISU. The change in logo is slowly gaining traction but I really wonder if it has been the marketing success people wanted.

Here's to Iowa State (ISU)

This was my biggest complaint. I-State seemed to come from nowhere. A new font and graphic using the logo (or a variation), ISU or Cyclones would have made more sense to me. I'm fine with the logo now and we probably do just need to stick with it regardless.

The only reference I have ever seen in regards to our colors and logo in relation to Chizik was that he thought that our football jersey's should be more of a cardinal than a red. And he was right. Other than that, I think Jamie wanted everything else changed including the logo.

The new logo didn't come out of no where. We used to have a similar one in the middle of the football field in the early nineties. People don't refer to Ohio State or Oklahoma State as "O State", even though they have similar looking logos. Other do too. We are Iowa State and ISU. I have no problem with anyone wanting to call it I-State, especially ISU's football players. I like the BCS feel of the new logo and the "I" helps us reclaim the State, in a sense. My favorite cap, before my new logo cap was a fuzzy letter "I" cap by Tailgate.

Just because the logo is an I with State behind it, doesnt mean we're trying to call ourselves "I-State". No one calls Michigan "M" or Florida "F", its a logo that represents Iowa State, ISU, I-State, whichever you choose to call us.

Yea, who wants to copy those purple people anyway.

Put this together
I know you have a lot of time on your hands, while at work, so could you do us all a favor and draw up a full model of the floor, with this logo in the middle, all of the writing on the floor, including "Johnny Orr Floor" someplace in there, too? Thanks in advance. (and make everything to scale)

I've never seen more ISU gear being worn in my lifetime than now. The majority of the gear being worn is the I-State logo with the new color scheme. I think it is safe to say the change has been a success. I love Cy too, but the I-State looks current and sharp.

This is the Iowa State logo for the future and is (and must be) unique to be trademarked. Confusion to Indiana State? No way.

I love the I-State color and the logo. The Cyclone-Tornado logo with Cy was comfortable but one which seemed dated. Whereas the new logo seems solid and traditional.

normally i do, and would do that, but today is crazy busy. sorry david.

With punching cy instead...

then you could put smaller istate logos in the paint, or in the corners of the court; one facing north side, one facing south

We use the "I-State" logo too much on all of our sports unifroms - it's overexposed.
For example, lots of schools have a different, football-only logo on their helmets - Nebraska, Mizzou, USC, LSU to name four; then you have ND, Ohio State, Penn State, BC who don't use any logo at all.
We should have the punching Cy or just numerals (like Alabama) on the helmet. The I-State logo is just too "busy" - no one can make it out.

I like the I-State at mid court, since it's our primary logo. Then you can stick the punching cy on the sides of the court where the Pioneer logos are at, or opposite them.

On the contrary birds are extremely awesome. A single letter that can't properly identify your school is dumb.

I don't know, but this one seems to stand out....I think the point your making is it hasn't worked well for us (yet)....

I live in Ohio now and the average person doesn't recognize the I-State logos on my car, but a few knowledgeable ones do...

I think the I-state logo is nice and simple.

I fully agree. We've got us a strong new logo that looks both modern and old school traditional at the same time. My main issue with the Cy/tornado logo was that it was difficlult to recognize from very far away at all. I think the 'walking Cy' logo was much better in that regard. The new logo fixes it by being simple and clean.

Now all we have to do is get our football, basketball, and other sports up to national prominence and then no one will have trouble recognizing our logo.

The new logo looks pretty classy IMO.

BTW, I like the "Walking Cy" better then the "Bird in a Blender."

is better then

Maybe for the next several years, but that is all. A new AD and promotions staff will bring in a new one, just as we've done constantly for the last 50 years...

Was the new "I" logo an effort of Chizik? If so it was one of the few positives he left with us.
