I State logo

JP wanted to incorporate our true school colors into a collegiate style logo, and thats what he did. It's now set, so lets keep it.

Face it, these decisions are purely marketing. If the change was to incorporate true colors the change has been a failure to date (many different colors from team to team in the same year).

As for the logo...I'm an old guy and never heard our University referred to as I-State. We were always Iowa State or ISU. The change in logo is slowly gaining traction but I really wonder if it has been the marketing success people wanted.

Here's to Iowa State (ISU)

Agreed. I do like the size they made the "I-State" mid-field and mid-court logo. Nice and big.

Has anyone been to the ISU Tailgate tour? That I-State Logo within the state of Iowa (outline) logo is sweet. That should be the center court logo at Hilton. (Just for BBall too.) Let's take claim of this state in hoops! Also, many B12 schools have the state outline in their midcourts....I think ISU should have that too.

I'm with you on that. I'm glad to see more cardinal and gold in the uniforms. I don't like the "I-State" logo. I prefer to have some sort of mascot logo on helmets and uniforms, but like I said, I don't want to see them change in another decade. So even though I don't like it, I want to see them stay with it.

Like I said earlier, a "compromise" I would like to see sometime is "I-State" on helmets and uniforms, "Cy" at mid-field and mid-court like Kansas has done.

Why can't they use the secondary logo as a pride sticker on the helmet for good play? Could be kind of cool. Like FSU does with little tomahawks all over the helmet.

I think we are stuck with the "Chizik I-State Logo" for a while so we might as well embrace it.

People will try to tell you that the marketing people who changed our scheme once again have nothing to do with Chizik, but talk to the average fan and the vast majority call it the "Chizik Logo".

We're at the mercy of the marketing people. They wanted a new identity with Gene Chizik and we are still stuck in that mode.

First I have ever heard of the I State logo being call chizik logo, and i know a ton of ISU peeps.

Also, for the football helmet. I wish we would have gone with yellow like the old days. We would have been the only school in the conference sporting that color....but also, we need two stripes down the center of the helmet. I do like the cardinal helmet...but again, wish it had two yellow stipes down the center....that would get rid of all the USC talk. I think we missed the boat there.

I like the ISU logo. It is very traditional looking. We really need to stick with it. That navyblue tornado-bird with HORRIBLE font needed to go. Now, I do like the tornado-bird (the secondary logo) look without that horrid font and the navy blue outlining it, but the I-State logo is sharp and is our main mark.

If I-state is such a great logo and everyone should or does know it is associated with ISU how come just about every reference to Iowa State University uses ISU on this site Vs. I State. - I see a bunch of ISU this, ISU that. I-State, not so much. Face it ISU was never, has never been called I-State until this recent sports marketing flop. . It's a marketing failure whitnessed by having this discussion.

Never been a fan of the I-State word art... Was truly disappointed in the lack of aesthetic decision making inflicted by the administration/Nike. I've come to accept it for the most part, but would still love to evolve it into something with more gravitas. Simple and iconic rules. I've said it before, but I'm sick of the minor league professional sports logos being designed today. Too bad most of the public is under-educated design-wise and react to glitz rather than an understated, but powerful design.

When I was a kid I taught myself how to draw the hawk logo (an Iowa fan until college) and thought I haven't drawn it in years, I just managed to draw it without even looking at it. The simple silhouette is easily reproduced and remembered by everyone. Texas has an amazing logo, no question. Ours keeps changing because we haven't had a great logo ever. The closest thing was the panty twister, which just need a few tweaks so that it didn't look like panties... Oh well, I digress. Back to work.

It still doesn't change the fact that the I-State logo is extremely lame =/

Totally disagree! We got there first, Illinois State or Idaho State or Indiana State could have claimed it but they didn't. We still have Cy and we have the I STATE logo too.

Back when we had the Power Cy (Which I liked BTW) people from the area and outside the state always asked about the chicken with no legs. I like the story behind it, but got tired of explaining it.

The I-State is easier and will become more recognizable

This should be the mid court logo in BB for ISU. Sweet. Plus, most B12 schools incorporate the state outline in hoops. We should do the same! Well, now since we need a new floor.

maybe because ISU is faster to type than istate? im sure there are plenty of kstate fans that say ksu but they are also widely known as kstate

Never in my life have I heard someone call it that. Heck, I don't even think I've seen it called that before even on here, until now.

We all didn't gravitate to ISU because it was national known so what do we care about a few people trying to rub our rhubarb.

Anyway, I have a feeling you give CPR and CFH a couple more years and it won't be a problem anymore.

Our current I-State logo has no staying power if we don't get a lot better. It will be replaced as soon as a new athletic director comes in and hires a new marketing staff.
The only way it stays any length of time is if we win big for a period.

This is a good point. "CY" was much more recognized a decade ago when the Clones won 9 Football games and had an Elite Eight Basketball team.

IMO we should push CY logo with new color scheme.

My whole thing is how many times has Cy won the mascott challenge? Cy is recognizable for a school as small as Iowa State, why change it to something that could be mistaken by the average fan for a school like Indiana State or Idaho State.

The mascot and the logo are too different things. I see Cy on a lot more gear thatn I do Herky, for examople. The new logo is more BCS. Our old logo was more WAC/Sun Belt like.

Same. I have never heard it referenced to that. It is more appropriate to call it the "JP Logo", but in reality it is *ISU's* logo.
