I know, I know, but seriously… Bring Back Baseball

Too many bean counters, not enough aspirational dreamers. All we have to do is find a way to absorb like $3 million a year in losses.

Let's start by pulling Milan's scholarship and replacing him with Cade Kelderman from the portal. From there we choose between Toure OR Batemon. And Buchanan OR Pleta. Go to 9 scholarships and a 6 man rotation. That should get us pretty close.

Some men see things as they are and ask why, I dream of things that never were and say why not?

Guessing he stays, Milan being the best non scholarship 6th man in the country has a nice ring to it.

Let's get MBB to a Final four and FB into the CFP and then we can start thinking about bringing back Baseball
Why? Those are impossible goals according to the logic most of our fans employ in this thread. We simply don’t have the resources to compete at that level. We didn’t before realignment and we surely don’t now.

Mocks the idea of having too many bean counters, then proceeds to count beans. LOL

Not really. One game away in 2000 and with JJ healthy we probably would've had a game with Michigan. We were one game away from the CFP in 2020 and 2024. Impossible? No. Difficult but somewhat more realistic than a Baseball team? Yes. And don't get me wrong, I would love a baseball team, even if it sucked. But it simply is not realistic at this point in time.

I legitimately don’t understand what the appeal of a baseball team at Iowa State would be. The college regular season runs from February to end May. It’s not even like you would be able to enjoy any home games. Maybe 2-3 weeks of solid warm weather.

What benefit would it give to anyone?

“I’m posting an idea I know full well is unrealistic, and everyone who disagrees with me is an idiot!”

At least the persuasion and people skills are there.
Kind of the opposite of what’s going on here. I posted an idea so realistic that the vast majority of D1 schools are able to do it, and then proceeded to hear everybody tell me how it’s unrealistic and I’m an idiot.

Because these 4 or 5 fools that keep bringing it up picture nice summer days in the bleachers with a beer. They forget or don’t realize the reality of ISU baseball was 38 degrees, cloudy, probably rainy and had no beer to ease the beat down our team usually took. And because of that, no one went. And this was in the ‘90s, when I went to ISU and baseball actually was more popular than it is today.

We are also only 4 years into both NIL and the sit out transfer rule being waived. So in the next 10 years is it more likely that ISU, Colorado, Wisconsin, SMU, or Syracuse adds baseball or that others join us? When baseball loses millions per year it would be hard not to envy an ISU program that has really gotten a lot of bang for its NIL buck in onfield results in the sports that fill up arenas & stadiums. Like if you're a Boston College fan wouldn't you be asking why are we blowing resources on a perennial sub-.500 baseball program when we havent made the big dance since 2009?

Weather won't matter after ISU builds a state of the art indoor baseball arena. The new arena would draw fans to the games and would attract world class recruits. ISU's proximity to Omaha would make the transportation costs for their annual trip to the College Baseball World Series very reasonable. Be positive and think BIG!

The only future add/drop confirmed at the moment is Tennessee State bringing baseball back after 30 years. Somebody forgot to tell them that they’re just some poor HBCU.

I imagine if you donated 5-10 million and paid for a new ballpark that JP would entertain that idea.
Build a covered stadium. Heat it with those corn squeezings they're putting in our gasoline. Boost the price of corn. Dekalb and Pioneer ought to really like that.

Yep. If you want to watch some baseball in central Iowa on a nice weather day, the Iowa Cubs are right there and they've got plenty of empty seats for most games (they averaged about 50% of capacity last season). And even the icubs often struggle to get more than a couple thousand there during the colder months despite having much more population to pull from and more established history here in central iowa.

Don’t forget to send a thank you email to Jamie for being the greatest thing to ever happen to ISU!
JP isn’t above criticism but bringing baseball back would be AD malpractice. Most Midwest AD’s would shed baseball if they could get away with it.
