I-35 / US 30 Flyover Progress

It is. And honestly, after driving past it nearly daily, it looks like it is actually sinking.

The engineer in me is embarrassed to admit that it took so long to realize the last pier has to be so much shorter because it's the top of the beams that need to meet the ramp, not the bottom.

I get what you're saying, but when I visualize the slope of the ramp, it just doesn't jive. Eventually they will get the beams on there, and it might make sense. But currently, it doesn't.

So they have to pay the construction company $5,500 each day they are late, when the construction company was the one that screwed up and caused this delay in the first place?

Am I reading that wrong?

Yeah, you've got that backwards.

The construction company is getting $5500 less for each day the project is behind.

Two months behind as in was supposed to be done two months ago? It’s gonna be way behind when it actually gets done and cost them way more than $275,000.

How about the expansion of lanes between Ames and Ankeny? Is that scheduled to be done a certain time?

Let's trust someone with no experience other than with Lincoln logs to build this. Seems like a solid plan

The portion from 36th St (Ankeny) to just north of Hwy 210 (Huxley) was added to the DOT 2019-2023 Improvement Plan. Right of Way funding in 2022 ($4 million), Grading in 2023 ($16 million), Bridge that crosses I35 (non-exit) replacement in 2023 ($4.5 million).

That's two decades behind.

But don't worry, we made sure to get a stretch of road in NW iowa with just a few thousand cars per day on it up to 4 lane status before we got one of the busiest stretches of highway taken care of, simply because once upon a time a governor made a political promise that it'd happen.

35 should be 3 lanes between ames and dsm, and 80 should be 3 lanes between DSM and IC, IMO.

I think that stretch of 80 will eventually get there, doesn't seem like a ton of traffic but it's the trucks that kill it.

The stretch of 80 between IC and the QC absolutely needs to be 3 each way
