Hy-Vee delivery

A gallon of Hy-Vee skim milk at our local Hy-Vee costs 60 cents more than a gallon of AE skim milk from Fareway. The AE at our Hy-Vee is 90 cents more than Fareway.

It's too bad that Hy-Vee is first with this instead of Price Chopper. This would have been a huge selling point in a new market.

If you compare like brands of milk, bread, and eggs I think you'll find very little difference between stores on average when they are not on sale. Unless things have changed a lot in 15 years, when we did price comparisons with other stores the differences were very small if you stayed in the aisles and bought the same products. I don't doubt that people who shop at Hy-Vee end up paying a lot more for groceries because of everything else they carry. Maybe this has changed though.

When I worked at Hy-Vee in high school I think I remember them saying they made 1-2% on canned items overall.

I've also wondered about getting the "fresh" stuff. When I go shopping I try to look at the dates on bread, lettuce bags, yogurt, etc.

Notice I didn't mention how much they make frozen, non foods, produce, meat, bakery, etc.

As far as Ron Pearson, I think he's been retired for a couple of years. Although maybe he has time to post of CF now

Bananas for instance: couple weeks ago they were starting to brown after a couple days. Last week, they were still f'ing green 4 days after buying.

I'll need to check the bill tonight. When my wife ordered it was yesterday the bill came to $107 but today said the final bill was around $104 because of produce and other items that they weren't certain on price. She did say that she got 40 cents on her gas card so that seemed to work.

Yeah, my bananas have to have a little green on them, but not too much. Still haven't found exactly the right combo, as my Thursday/Friday bananas start looking a little sketchy.

Milk, bread and eggs would put you well over $100 at HyVee.

I've generally had luck finding prices at Hy-Vee that are comparable to Fareway. Granted I've sometimes had to go with coupons/off brands ect, but nothing too crazy. Also, I save 10-15 bucks a month on the fuel saver as well.

we've been doing it since they started a few weeks back. My wife loves it! Saves her so much time! Saves me time too, because I can never find anything.

From what I heard, most people are ordering stuff over $100 and Hy Vee is losing money on this new idea. I think its a good concept but I don't think it will last under this system of free delivery over $100.

Hy-Vee wouldn't do this if they were losing money. Just like fuel saver and any other marketing ideas, they make up for the 'free' delivery.

Fuel saver is the bomb. At the one on Center Point and BlairsFerry they will do a think every so often where if you spend like $40 you get $.40 on fuel saver.
