Yes I agree. Could’ve replaced the capacitor but I didn’t want to risk July/August with no AC. The unit outlived its expectancy.I’m no EE but I didn’t know capacitors could get “weak”.

Yearly checkups are not necessary. I even asked my friends who own a major HVAC company. The money you spend on checkups won’t save you a part that goes out. It’s going to go
Out regardless. Best solution is to keep the filter up to date. Especially if the unit is basically brand new
I had the opposite of this happen for me. I needed to get the transmission replaced on my Geo Metro back in the day. They finished the transmission, but when they were taking it out ro test it, the axle broke. They called to say the car would not be ready and why, I picked it up later and they didn't charge anything extra for repairing the axle.I love this stuff. Grill them mercilessly. Stand over their shoulder so they know you know exactly what is happening. You gain good info on them either way.
My version of this was about a decade ago Toyota dealer (real chicago wiseguys) broke my key fob while working on my car and tried charged me $150 for a new key. They said "these things just break" and I was like "yeah, you broke it, I didn't, it worked when I handed you the keys".

To each their own on this HVAC service contract. If someone wants peace of mind... during extremes in temp ...with 24 hour on call service ... and no labor charge for showing up ... discounts on parts .... and has no interest to attempt to fix it themselves ... then count me in. Which I'm in. Saved my a$$ last summer during extreme heat with a full house of people staying the night. Tech shows up at 7 p.m. on Friday and fixes the problem. $80 part. He said they were booked out through the following week for people not on service contract. I then went back to my ice cold beer.
Turned ours on a few weeks ago. Switched back and forth between A/C and heat a few times since then. You guys have your AC on already?
It was 87 degrees today.
Well your alive to post about it, I'm guessing you learned quickly.I'm sure you had no worries going back and I never went back.
My college gf at ISU had a Geo Metro and we drove it across Colorado one summer...only time I've driven a manual transmission and it was in the Rockies haha.
I can deal with cold and waiting to turn heat on until I worry about pipes freezing but won't let my house get above 74 (68 is my preferred if not being cheap). AC has been on but barely running so far this year.ok?
We had windows open and there was a nice breeze.
I have a very good friend that washes AC coils in May and again in June for cottonwood accumulation. And people call him to do it each time. He said he usually uses their hose and their water. He does a checkup on the first call. Some people just dont have it in them to try it themselves, or they simply dont have the time and it may be cheaper to call a tech if they are self employed and can make more money doing their own job or spending time with their family. That was his reponse in a nutshell, after I questioned him about doing it twice.I think the lesson here is that tune ups are waste of money.
Took a Hyundai Tucson into Stew Hansen Hyundai to get the horns replaced under warranty, as they worked intermittently. Honked at a deer that morning. Service advisor told me they couldnt replace horns under warranty as the horns werent on the car. Tried to charge me a $200 diag fee, and $600 to have them replacedI love this stuff. It appears that I have a short in my HVAC system (based on my research and initial troubleshooting) the fan just keeps running without responding to thermostat changes.
