How do our facilities compare to others?

[h=3]Largest video scoreboards in college football[/h]

Auburn: 10,830 square feet*
Texas A&M: 7,661 square feet
Texas: 7,370 square feet
Miami: 6,717 square feet
Arkansas: 6,286 square feet
ISU 2,862 square feet

We are never going to catch up unless we make a huge jump in funding for facilities upgrades. The more we add the more everyone else adds. Mississippi State is going to have 2 7,000+ square foot video boards when there new renovations are complete

Why? I personally think that is the worst idea ever. The Texas board looks terrible. It's way too big. I don't like the Miss states either the way it is set up.

Too big and don't flow with the stadium. I hope isu never puts something that big in.

I love the size of the current isu boards. They are big but they don't take up entire sections of what should be stadium.

I agree with this. The structures fit their spots well. Also, the videoboard structures are designed to have the "I-State" logoed sections covered in board as well too, if they want to go bigger in the future.

Not saying that we need to go bigger on our video boards because they are the right size for our stadium. We aren't going to catch up with other schools unless we have a T. Boone Pickens type person or people step up and commit the funding needed to jump ahead of the rest of the programs.

I don't think we need to do that as I think we are light years ahead of where we used to be. But I think kids see some of the stuff that Iowa, Oregon, Alabama has done with their facilities and we automatically start at a disadvantage.

Was thinking yesterday while I was there for camp with my son is that in the event (15 - 20 years from now) they upgrade the north end zone to go with the new south end zone is that it would be awesome if the get rid of the olsen bldg and create a new facility that brings together the Jacobsen, with the current team facility and make a single large Football complex across the north end zone along with closing the north corners in with seating.

Iowa is included in that group?

I included Iowa after having seen the tour of their new facility that they just spent 65 million dollars on. Its bigger, nicer, but they don't have anything that we don't have, except maybe the nice player lounge. Granted it is not on the scope of Oregon's or Alabama's, but outside of the big12, Iowa is one of the schools that we should be comparing ourselves to since we compete against them for instate talent.

The Hawks new football facility and indoor practice field are legit. The way the indoor field opens up along the side is pretty neat too. Some players can be running drills outside and some inside without having to split the team up.

At some point it's all relative though. The majority of recruits decisions probably aren't going to come down to who has the bigger practice field or weight room as long as they are both nice. Not saying it doesn't make a difference with some because I'm sure it can have some sway, but by and large recruits are making their decisions based on more important factors like coaching, style of play, location, playing time, education, development, etc.

My guess is they'd duplicate, or do something similar to the South Endzone in the north end and either move back the old scoreboard or just demolish it, along with the Jacobson and Olsen Bldgs. The Jacobson Building serves its purpose, but in terms of capital improvements, it should not be included in any long-range plans. In regards to adding even more seats, the lower east and west sideline seats (that aren't students) could have chairbacks, similar to sideline seats at Minnesota, which take up more room per person, can be sold for more $$, and wouldn't increase capacity too much to the point where supply would outweigh demand, while still making the stadium look bigger and more impressive.

Our's is very average when you look at the landscape of the other Power 5 teams. I've toured Iowa's new one, Oklahoma's in 2012 and Nebraska's in 2014. I'd say Nebraskas was the nicest. Weight room was impressive, particularly. Oklahoma's and Iowa's were really nice too - Oklahomas was just slightly better. Our's is very functional but small compared to the other 3. If you were making a decision based on facility alone, we'd be behind all 3 of those by a little ways.

And for everyone talking about the stadium, it means jack squat to kids these days. JTS, with the recent upgrades, is good enough. Kids want player lounges, PS4's and Xbox360's in the facilities, huge weight rooms, etc....

... And for those curious current stadium list is SDSU, USC, UCLA, Air Force, CU, CSU, UGA, GA State, GA Tech, Boise St, IL, Purdue, Iowa, KU, Tulane, MS State, Nebraska, Buffalo, Syracuse, Clemson, TCU, and Wyoming.

I'm jealous. I have not been to nearly that many, but the one that surprised me of those I have visited was Notre Dame. Very average stadium for the tradition and money they have.

Bingo. 365 Days vs 6 or 7 Days.

Agreed. Iowa's facility is far closer to Iowa State's than Oregon or Alabama.

That's just it though... Iowa is rarely competing for a recruit with Alabama or Oregon. Those schools are just on a different level. I don't think the question is really about how do Iowa's facilities compare to Alabama or Oregon as much as it is how do they compare to Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa State, Purdue, Michigan State, etc. etc. etc.

It's not realistic for any of the above listed schools to try to compete with the Alabama or Oregon's of the college football landscape. That's just not gonna happen.

Seems like half of Iowa's facility is given to hallways with tributes to try to help them feel good about themselves and forget they are in Iowa City!

Meh. Probably better in person, but that video was not impressive.

For big games, especially big night games, the atmosphere and energy in Nebraska's stadium is pretty impressive. I was at their game against Miami last fall and it was pretty electric.
