That is honestly the dumbest reason I have heard yet as to why this is dragging out. You have no sources, so don't act like you do.
Lol okay. I don't care if you think it's dumb or not. We'll see.

I was sad, then I read this:

Hornacek isn't squashing any of the talk that he'd be interested. That in itself is good news to me.
Don't buy it now but please come back and acknowledge that you were wrong next week.
So you care? :smile:Lol okay. I don't care if you think it's dumb or not. We'll see.
I posted this link in the other thread, but I think it bears repeating here as well. I think we have a legit shot at getting Hornacek. Just check out this quote from 2013.
"My goal was never to be a coach in the NBA," Hornacek said in 2013. "I always felt I would coach, but I thought that would be on the college level. I felt that what I'd learned over the years would be too much for high school, but the pro guys... they already know everything, so why would I do that?"
If the Suns don't extend his contract, why wouldn't he take 5 years and $10 million total to come to ISU? Sounds like he would enjoy coaching college, and he would have better job security and be paid just as well.
Agree he probably wasn't promised the job, but CFH may have given Otz his blessing as his recommendations. Additionally the longer this gets drawn out, it does limit the pool of candidate that may have come in April, but now feel to committed to their team now. He is for sure one of the candidates.
Gotcha. Thank you for clarifying. From what I've heard this is why he's waiting. Maybe he'll announce before Monday and his kids just won't go to the last day of school. Can't blame him for thinking about them. I'm sure they'd be subject to unwanted attention from other kids.
I'm coning around to the idea of Otz taking over. He's a hell of a recruiter. He's proven to be a hell of a recruiter to Ames. He knows the kids, the area and the system that Fred runs. Beyond the dream scenarios of Fred staying, or of Hornacek coming on board with Otz as an assistant, I think TJ is tied for 2nd on my board with someone like Rice from Boise State.
From March 2013..
Just got off the phone with Fred Hoiberg. "I hope to coach here until I retire," he said.

I'm just sitting here with my Gene Chizek coin, hoping and praying this is true!

Do you expect the new coach to not recruit any big men? As for expectations, I will reserve judgement until I know who the coach is and what the roster is. But to say that it is NIT at best right now is WAY too premature.
Exactly. Its probably the best time Hoiberg could do if in fact he is going to leave at some point. Leaving after next season would set the program back a few years. Leaving now allows the next coach to get some very early momentum.
Ok Fred. Keep telling yourself that.
I was on a flight with Pollard from Dallas to DSM last night. The man looked stressed, and I honestly feel bad for him. Every 3rd person asked him about Hoiberg, and you could tell it was wearing on him. I had the opportunity to talk with him, and we chatted about everything but basketball. He did have some great things to say about how the SEZ is coming together, and really perked up when we talked about it.
Sorry for no Fred news, but he seemed like a man who knew what was coming.

I am sure they haven't received any unwanted attention over the last 2 weeks...
