Don't buy it now but please come back and acknowledge that you were wrong next week.

If I am wrong, I will fully admit it. Wishful thinking on my part since I actually know his kids and how involved in activities they are.

There are a lot of folks on here that need to learn correlation does not imply causation.

I posted this link in the other thread, but I think it bears repeating here as well. I think we have a legit shot at getting Hornacek. Just check out this quote from 2013.

"My goal was never to be a coach in the NBA," Hornacek said in 2013. "I always felt I would coach, but I thought that would be on the college level. I felt that what I'd learned over the years would be too much for high school, but the pro guys... they already know everything, so why would I do that?"

If the Suns don't extend his contract, why wouldn't he take 5 years and $10 million total to come to ISU? Sounds like he would enjoy coaching college, and he would have better job security and be paid just as well.

Very interesting... well maybe it'd be more possible than I thought.

Agree he probably wasn't promised the job, but CFH may have given Otz his blessing as his recommendations. Additionally the longer this gets drawn out, it does limit the pool of candidate that may have come in April, but now feel to committed to their team now. He is for sure one of the candidates.

No argument with you there and I agree completely.

Gotcha. Thank you for clarifying. From what I've heard this is why he's waiting. Maybe he'll announce before Monday and his kids just won't go to the last day of school. Can't blame him for thinking about them. I'm sure they'd be subject to unwanted attention from other kids.

I am sure they haven't received any unwanted attention over the last 2 weeks...

I'm coning around to the idea of Otz taking over. He's a hell of a recruiter. He's proven to be a hell of a recruiter to Ames. He knows the kids, the area and the system that Fred runs. Beyond the dream scenarios of Fred staying, or of Hornacek coming on board with Otz as an assistant, I think TJ is tied for 2nd on my board with someone like Rice from Boise State.

all true but he's been recruiting kids to play for other head coaches. Wayne Morgan was a great recruiter at Syracuse but for Boheim and Morgan was a terrible coach. And yes he and Pollard are best buddies which makes me even more Leary. That's set up for a disaster to happen. Just like CPR, it makes it hard to fire your buddy and the program suffers immensely.

From March 2013..

Just got off the phone with Fred Hoiberg. "I hope to coach here until I retire," he said.

I'm just sitting here with my Gene Chizek coin, hoping and praying this is true!

Do you expect the new coach to not recruit any big men? As for expectations, I will reserve judgement until I know who the coach is and what the roster is. But to say that it is NIT at best right now is WAY too premature.

Just being realistic. Who knows what kind of transfers we can get without Fred, and that's what we'll need to be decent.

Exactly. Its probably the best time Hoiberg could do if in fact he is going to leave at some point. Leaving after next season would set the program back a few years. Leaving now allows the next coach to get some very early momentum.

Ok Fred. Keep telling yourself that.

I was on a flight with Pollard from Dallas to DSM last night. The man looked stressed, and I honestly feel bad for him. Every 3rd person asked him about Hoiberg, and you could tell it was wearing on him. I had the opportunity to talk with him, and we chatted about everything but basketball. He did have some great things to say about how the SEZ is coming together, and really perked up when we talked about it.

Sorry for no Fred news, but he seemed like a man who knew what was coming.

Provide an argument to that.

No matter when Fred leaves, its going to sting. He is providing the next coach a pretty stacked cupboard for that coaches first season, and that rarely happens in college basketball.

Im surprised it was only every 3rd person, but kudos to you for letting the guy escape for this crap. Its wearing on me, and I cant even imagine what it is doing to JP.

Good for you not bothering him about Fred. He's not going to tell a "man on the street" anything earth shattering, so no point in being that guy.

Would it be worse to field too many questions about the program or none at all.

JP must feel the energy and know how important this hire will be to keep it going

Use the force, Jamie
