I don't know if we'll ever find out if this is the case, but I'm convinced he got injured and played with that the last half of this year. This guy was a junk yard dog for 1.5 years, and that type of play is mental, it isn't something you just stop doing. His game and attacking the boards seemed to all but disappear except for glimpses every now and then and it doesn't make sense. Looking at yesterdays loss, that was his type of game, clean up the garbage, and it was so missed. I don't buy into the crap about UAB being such a long team, it never mattered in the past with Hogue and I'm not questioning his heart, I just really believe there's something we don't know. Loved having him here for the two years and watching him grind it out, he'll be missed.

We've done this already. He's not playing inside anymore defensively and that had a lot to do with his numbers even though he was still a merchant of chaos.

Hogue was a huge part of our success this year.

A look at how important he was in our losses:

Maryland: 3 points, 0 rebounds
South Carolina: 15 points, 6 rebounds
@ Baylor: 5 points, 5 rebounds
@ Tech: 8 points, 7 rebounds
@ Kansas: 7 points, 5 rebounds
@ Oklahoma: 19 points, 3 rebounds
vs. Baylor: 2 points, 2 rebounds
@ KState: 8 points, 6 rebounds
vs. UAB: 0 points, 3 rebounds

Sadly, yesterday was the first time in Hogue's career he was shut out in an Iowa State uniform.

He also only scored 2 points his final 48 minutes playing as a Cyclone.

Sometimes the ball just bounces to the other team, and sometimes players just get synched in with where it's going. UAB is a really good rebounding team.

Nah....something was going on. I'm not ripping him....but in KC something was obviously bothering him...he was inconsolable in a couple of those games, pushing away McKay who tried to lift him up, abdelmassi was in his ear when he wasn't participating in a huddle, sat with a towel over his head a bit.....and then a complete no show yesterday.

Not saying it was anything major....but IMO we just haven't seen that Hogue we are used to for the last week.....to where I think it was something more than just the ball didn't bounce his way.

Plus the last 3-4 regular season games of the year. He had been getting stretched out pretty hard during half times too.

Ah yes...he was getting a lot of treatment. Which hey....if the kid was playing hurt....tough to fault the guy. We haven't seen that same explosion rebounding in awhile so that could be it.

Hogue added clutch 3s to his toolbox for this year. I was looking for him to make his contribution in the last minute of the UAB game. The ball came to him, but he couldn't get a clean handle for a quick shot. Otherwise, he might be the hero of today's chatter.

That's my personal opinion. The guy is a warrior, so he probably wouldn't say if he's hurt anyway.
