Ridiculously excited. In addition to the basic financial aspects (it's likely we'll be going from $1.5 million to $10 million a year just from TV revenue), simply knowing that we'll have a legitimate chance to play for a title every year is a night and day difference. Besides, we'll be getting the likes of USC, Oregon, and Cal coming to town instead of Wyoming, New Mexico, and UNLV. Next year can't come soon enough.
Their move was a total knee-jerk reaction to Utah's invite. I think they're going to be in for a harsh dose of reality regarding going independent. BYU likes to think of themselves as Notre Dame (a religious school with a huge national following), but they're in for a big shock when they find out that no one outside of Utah gives a crap. Although in some ways I'd agree with the Notre Dame comparison - they have all of the same arrogance, and cling to success from decades ago while the rest of the college football world passes them by.
Most Utah fans were thrilled with the USU win. Their head coach (Gary Anderson) used to be our defensive coordinator, and is an awesome guy. Seeing them curbstomp BYU made for an awesome bye week!
Good insights. Utah was one of the big winners in my book in the conference realignment lottery. I think Boise State was in the end one of the losers in how it all went down. What's your thoughts on Boise St? I think Utah can compete fairly well in the PAC 10, though I'm more skeptical about Colorado, despite their big win against GA yesterday.
I think Boise is a damn good team that can beat anyone in the country on any given Saturday. That being said, it's pretty easy to stay fresh and healthy when your schedule consists of one good team and 11 scrimmages against the equivalent of high school squads.
Welcome! I believe your starting QB was being recruited by Iowa State while in high school and you guys stole him from us!
The 7-minute video (I can't go to games, so I love seeing the highlights) is misleading; ISU had 441 yards of offense, TT topped the 500 mark.
We're very proud of our "twin" sophomore linebackers. They have six interceptions between them this season and are the team's leading tacklers. We know our defense must get bigger and stronger up front. That's a work in progress.
We have the coach, Paul Rhoads (in his second year), who most of us believe is the perfect fit for the Cyclones. He grew up 15 miles down the road and was an assistant here when Dan McCarney conjured the program alive Phoenix-like from the ashes.
The three seasons before Rhoads's arrival here, ISU won nine football games. In his debut season last fall, Rhoads's directed ISU to a 7-6 record, including an Insight Bowl victory. We fans thought that amazing and a sure sign of great things to come, given time.
We've got glaring weaknesses on our 2010 team, which is going against one of the three toughest-rated schedules in the nation. But, what the Cyclones are sure to do Saturday is give your Utes the best they've got and never quit.
Personally, I've got the highest regard for the Utah football program. May you win every game, save Saturday's, of course.

I went by Utah's stadium when I was in SLC a few years ago (for a Novell conference) -- it's a nice setting, looked like a great facility and about the same capacity as ISU. But where in the world do people park for games? I honestly don't remember seeing any large parking lots around there (??).

Anyways, I have watched Shontrelle's td run like 15 times and I am giddy with excitement to see him progress as a player. His breakaway ability is something I have not seen in our backfield, and something I have been begging for for a long time. Simply awesome!!

Welcome to the board Ute fans. I hope we can play there someday, SLC is an awesome sight coming in from the east on I-80, and one of the most beautiful settings for a city in the U.S below the what, Wasach Mountains? Also home to one of our favorite sons, Jeff Hornacek. And we have a ton of respect for the Ute football program, which also has proven they can beat anybody. I don't think anybody in the country has been better than you guys on bowl day the last two years with those stompings of Alabama and Cal. Really looking forward to the Utes coming to town, and hoping we can continue our rapid improvement and give you a game.
I haven't been down to Utah on game day since moving out here but your assessment is correct. Their tailgating scene has to be very similar to Iowa City because there are no large central areas nearby except for the basketball arena parking and a little bit around the stadium...no way it comes close to Ames.
P.S. The talk out here on sports talk radio has been that the Utes won't be challenged until much later on in the season. I have not heard Iowa State even mentioned on any local sports talk and I tune in going to and from work every day.
Well, up until now, I don't think any of us realistically thought we'd put up much of a challenge. I still don't think it'll be that great of a game. Hopefully I'm wrong.
