HBO Max

Two big announcements today. HBO Max is now MAX and a new GoT

So....why does the name matter that much that they feel the need to keep changing it? They aren't changing any content are they? Feels like it's an unnecessary cost for a company that's trying to shed its balance sheet. I guess spending money on a name change must be more important use of money than actually releasing shows and movies that are already produced?

It's adding Discovery+ content

Part of the merger with Discovery.

What they announced today is going to flop big time. Completely getting rid of the name and brand "HBO" and changing all service to just "Max". You will have to pay $16/mo just for ad-free and $20/mo for 4K and Dolby Atmos.

The best way to kill a brand is to literally kill the brand name that has stood strong for decades.

Charging extra for 4k in 2023, especially when it had previously been included free, is ******* stupid

Waiting for when they only let you subscribe for a year at a time to eliminate people subscribing only for a month and binging the good HBO shows. That's the only way to wring more money out of people at this point...

Somebody needs to change something to justify their position as Executive of Branding!

In the end, as long as HBO continues to have the highest quality series they’ll be fine. But I can’t imagine why the hell they would remove the brand recognition that reminds people that oh, it’s HBO, that means it’s probably good.
