Harbaugh

Michigan is a weird job. Great history, but pretty irrelevant recently. Winning 10 games won’t keep you you’re job and you have to play Ohio State, Penn State and Norte Dame ever year. If you don’t win the Big 10 within your first 5 years you’re fired. I would rather stay where winning is fun and fans understand building a team has its hiccups.

IIRC The money there isn’t over the top

Haven't we always heard that Campbell was more of a Michigan fan than an Ohio State fan?

Ohio State, the Michigan schools, and Penn State has always worried me.

Just out of curiosity what is Campbell's buyout these days? I know it was real high, but it has gone down every year.

CMC's teams tend not to play very well and actually look pretty disorganized out of the gates and has cost him better W/L records.

I'm not sure if Michigan fans want their teams to play their best ball for four games in October.

Yeah, like CMC and want him to stay, but until he figures out how to start the season better he is not going to be at the top of elite program wish lists.

What’s Harbaugh’s buyout? I’m guess it’s huge. And with the financial impacts of Covid, there is a chance that money is a reason they don’t make a move.

But Michigan is one of the jobs that would really worry me with Campbell.
Yeah, I was thinking about this as I read @LarryISU's post and this one. COVID may mean that this context has shifted and these decisions won't be the same as typical years. Athletic departments are almost all running big deficits now.

Why? Have they been good or relevant in the past 20 years? They need to take their medicine just like Nebraska.
I dont think Michigan is in the same boat as Nebraska. They have access to a lot of talent nearby. A good coach could turn them back into a top 10 program in a few years.
Nebraska poisoned their recruiting well when they left the B12. They’ll never be more than a mid tier program again. They fired coaches too fast and no longer have name recognition with new recruits out of state.

Which is hilarious, because he's gone 10-3 3 times, 8-5 and 9-4. The only black mark he has is his record against Ohio State.
He's 1-6 combined vs TOSU and MSU at home and overall 3-3 vs MSU.
This year they got beat up by a bad MS team, with a first year head coach, who the previous week got housed by Rutgers.

I'm not sure if I see Hugh Freeze as a fixer there, he seems more like a "Southern" coach and I could see him be the next guy at South Carolina. Not sure if Vandy or Virginia Tech would want his character issues.

This is the thing that puts them in the same boat. Both programs/fanbases think they should be making the cfp every year and winning titles every few years.

If I was Michigan, I'd first contact Fitzgerald. Who knows if he'd ever leave but worth a shot.
Then I'd peek at Gundy, Mendenhall, Fickell type guys.

Fickell is an OSU guy and would be shocked if he went to Michigan.
Yeah, Fickell is probably the most wanted young coach in the country now, but I don’t think there’s any chance they hire a Buckeye player and former coach. If PSU fires Franklin (they won’t) he’d be their guy in my opinion. So to me Campbell would be a prime target for Michigan if they fire Harbaugh. Though Michigan might want to see what happens with the NFL carousel first. Will be interesting to see what the interest in Bill O’Brian is.

I hope that’s what they do. But we are kidding ourselves if we think campbell isn’t exactly the type of guy they think of.

no way they go for that hick gundy
