Hamilton Considering Cal, LSU, Virginia

I work for a company where if an employee resigns they are given an exit interview by their supervisor’s supervisor. Does J.P. interview players from our Men’s Basketball program after they request a transfer?

Does your company stand beside an employee who does not produce results within his first four years? If not, yore trying to compare apples to oranges here...

Even if he does, I doubt the players want to throw it on Mac. They will probably make up an excuse why they are leaving, because they also know that coaches will be calling up Mac about Hamilton's ability. JP shouldn't need to hear the players issues...a simple look at the number of players running from the program is enough of an indictment against Mac.

If he was actually going to transfer to school in Utah or a surrounding state to be "closer to home" nobody on the Board would be upset with him. He bold faced lied.

Whatever. Yeah he lied, but that does not bother me much at all compared to the fact of why he left. The fact that he "lied" makes it pretty obvious he left because he was not happy. The fact that he is not happy falls on the shoulders of the coaching staff, and that is who I am upset with...

Would you have rather he said, "I can not stand the coaching staff. I think they are a-holes and don't know what they are doing. For that matter, I don't really like Ames or Iowa State University either. I would strongly suggest to anyone who is thinking about coming here to get out while you still can."

Fair enough...So Ham would lie?...doesn't sound like Ham I've met.

You just said he lied above when you hinted that he wasn't telling the truth about why he is transferring.

I don't believe anything you say unless it can be backed up by cold hard facts because the other stuff you say is just biased opinion.

i think what he is saying is jp should hold a confidential exit interview and get the real thoughts of players that are leaving, not just what the tell mac and what mac relays to him.

I would hope JP does this it could give him a different perspective and also figure out how to improve the situation.

Fair enough...I'm not worried about it.

Thank you. So obviously we have a player who doesn't feel he can be honest with the staff (is that his fault or the coaches?), or media relations helped him with the statement.
But again, calling out Ham for not "being tough" is just preposterous, and without merit.
I bet Ham just got fed up with the lack of accoutability within the program, and feels more comfortable playing for a more authoritative coach who rides heard a little harder.
So if Ham left because he wanted to be pushed more and Wes Johnson left because he was being pushed too hard what in the hell is Mcdermott supposed to do?

Here are the cold hard facts you requested. Hamilton lied.

“I appreciate everything the Cyclone Nation has done for me,â€￾ Hamilton said. “The fan base, my teammates and the support of the community at ISU has been incredible, but I just feel I need to be at a school closer to home where my family will have a better opportunity to watch me play. I appreciate everything Coach McDermott and the coaching staff has done for me. They have helped me improve as a player and person.â€￾

If a guy like Ham, who most likely would have been a 4-year starter is leaving the program, I think it's justifiable to question both his motives, but also question the coaching staff's relationship with him and their inability to retain a player like him.

Furthermore, when there has been a staggering amount of players that have left the program over the course of a coach's tenure, don't you think it's being a little naive to assume and even argue that each incident is isolated and without connection to the other incidents?

I have no idea what Ham's motives were and what he truly feels about the ISU staff and program, but I don't think it's unreasonable to look at his situation, and then factor the alarming number of players that have made a similar decision prior to his, and have immediate doubts about the coaching staff.

I've been a Mac supporter and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt when the players started leaving. Some needed to leave, and for so many we really don't know why and frustrates the passionate fan base. Me included! Mac is the common factor with all of the athletes and it's up to him to make sure we win games, and it's hard to do with so much turnover. I know before he left UNI there were players who really didn't like him and now seems we have the same problem. Mac has brought integrety back to the position, but we are losing more games than I'd ever hoped for. Tough decision for JP, I'm sure it's kept him up many of nights.

I know he lied. You didn't pay attention to what i was talking about. KG said he wouldn't lie because "that is not the hamilton he knows". But just before that he hinted that Hamilton was lying because the real reason he transferred was that he wasn't "tough" enough.

Obviously Ham is not coming back; however, I would like either GMac or Ham to step forward and explain why both GMac and Ham stated that Ham wanted to play "closer to home" and then chose either LSU, Virginia, or Cal. This would be the right thing to do.
