We have a giant silver maple in our front yard and my gutters were completely filled with the helicopter seeds. I went to Home Depot this afternoon and bought an $8 high pressure nozzle for the end of my garden hose and blasted the seeds out of the gutter. I probably made about a dozen trips up the ladder but my gutters are completely clean!

Thinking that all the different tree seeds are going to outyield corn and soybean if this weather holds up.

Can't wait for the "Chia Gutters" to start growing on the clogged ones. Plus the smell of the rotting seeds in the gutters is hard to get off your hands if you clean them out.

I need that. I just used my hands and the hose on Friday.

We replaced our downspouts with larger 3" x 4" a few years ago--carries much more water from the gutters. very pleased

I did noticed last fall during heavy rains water was pouring over gutter in front our our home. I got on a ladder later to discover a soggy newspaper in the gutter, damming things up. One of the knucklehead paper carriers just chucked a daily edition onto our roof, and thought it was ok... good lord..lol

As a former paper boy I would like to apologize to everyone that I likely woke up by it hitting their door hard or going on their roof. Only once did I leave one on the roof though.

As someone living in suburbia with only one tree in their yard (a TEN foot crab apple tree), just think of my maintenance free decision as your opportunity: more gutter clogging trees available for you.

I hope your paperboy hits the roids this summer!

But those little maple helicopters are so cute when the fall this time of year.

Just cleaned my gutters this weekend and all four downspot areas were clogged with those things. A bunch had sprouted on the front side. Gross but easy to do on a ranch.

Use a glove or do as I did, just use a plastic bag. If it works for dog poop it works for gross maple seeds in the gutter.

On a somewhat related question, I have water going over mine only in one spot due to it being a low spot in the gutter so the water isn't flowing to the downspout end.

Is that a b**ch to fix yourself, or somewhat simple?

What's the max reach? I need to go up about 3 stories to reach the one problem gutter on my house.

I grew up on a farm, have had cows crap on my hand, pulled pigs from a sow, no biggie or issue for me, but others you never know!

When I was a paperboy back in the bronze age we were taught that the only acceptable way to deliver a paper was to put it inside the screen door at the front door or if the inside door was open or there was no screen door to place it on the porch immediately in front of the door.

When I moved into my house I thought it was a pain that I had to walk across the street to our shared group of mailboxes and get the paper from the plastic paper box under my mail box. Then this last winter we apparently got a new paper carrier who decided it is okay to just fling the paper on the driveway as he drove down the street. That's fine and all but when it is covered with snow by the time the customer is up you have just created a big hazard for the snow blower.

It has been 12 hours. Sorry to inform you, but your gutters are no longer completely clean!

I know what you mean, but I purposely waited until my tree had shed all of its helicopter seeds before I cleaned my gutters, and there aren't any other maple trees nearby, so I'm pretty sure the gutters are still clean.

A few years back when I lived up in Ankeny we used to get a weekly shopper/advertiser paper. I'm out mowing the front yard and the kid delivering the paper tossed it up into my yard and right in front of my mower. You want to talk about a mess!

Our two trees are Maples, and we are inundated with helicopter seeds also.

I'm not an arborist, but do these helicopters show up every few years? (like Oak trees w/ acorns?)

I don't remember having so many of these gutter-clogging seeds (our two trees were planted 15 years ago).

Was the same way for me back when i was a kid delivering a weekly shopper paper for awhile. Had to bag every paper and then put it on the door handle\knob.

In ankeny, the des moines register has a weekly shopper paper. They just throw it at the end of the driveway. I have no desire for it and have asked them to stop delivery multiple times, but sure enough it still shows up at the end of my driveway most weeks... sometimes soaking wet if it rained in between them throwing it and me seeing it.
