Gus Johnson is coming to Ames!

I agree, not sure what Fox was thinking on that one.

what were their options? I would assume they sent him to this game because they think it'll be a close game. You don't send Johnson to an expected blowout where his over-the-top calls become more annoying than exciting.

I watched the replay of the 2005 ISU beat down of Iowa, and Mike Tirico was announcing that game. Thought that was pretty cool, in retrospect.

I assume they simply didn't have anything better in their inventory at this time slot?

Here are the other games FOX could have chosen among their tier-one inventory (Big 12 and Pac-12):

Liberty @ West Virginia
UTEP @ Texas Tech
Stephen F. Austin @ TCU
Memphis @ Kansas
Lamar @ Baylor
Central Arkansas @ Oklahoma State
Rice @ Texas
UMass @ Colorado
Sacramento State @ Washington
San Diego State @ Cal
Idaho @ USC
UCF @ Stanford
Cal Poly @ Arizona State

That's a pretty brutal schedule. Maybe FOX sends Gus Johnson to UCF-Stanford if they both won this past weekend instead, but otherwise, there's nothing there.

Good game to listen to John and Eric.
Well, every game is a good game to listen to John and Eric, but from a national perspective Gus Johnson is about as good as you can get for football commentators.

Everyone always has something to complain about with who calls the ISU game on TV. Im just glad Fox is sending their prime time talent to Ames to call a game.

Was he the guy from the purple Kansas game last year? If so he probably has a crush on Allen after the flee flicker TD.

Joel Klatt is solid, he did the 2011 game against Iowa. You know what you're gonna get with Gus Johnson, I think he's great personally.
