*Goodbye to Mark Adams*

He would still have been there if he won enough games. It was the losing record for Tech
They just made the Big 12 championship game last year, were a 3 seed, made the Sweet 16 and had the #1 ranked defense in college basktball last year.

A bad month in January wasn't going to get him fired.

And Tech is not going away. They have the money and fan support to continue this winning.

I don't think Tech is going away. With the money and facilities they have, I could see them spending a lot for a splashy hire, or opening up the NIL checkbook to get talented transfers. Plus, they have a good nucleus of young talent there, if they stay.
Even in Beard's best years, the roster was a revolving door after a nucleus of 4-5 guys. Their end of bench type guys and freshmen who didn't play much were always leaving the program, and last year we saw them start to lose starters and even stars in McCullar and Shannon. The writing has been on the wall for awhile with Adams IMO. I think Beard would have worn out his welcome eventually too. Whoever the next hire is, they need someone with a little more character and backbone.

I think there were enough boosters who probably never liked the hire to begin with, and when he started losing players last offseason and losing games this year, it didn't take much to pay him to leave.

I can't say I blame TT fans/boosters that maybe didn't want him to be the coach. The guy was hired at 65 to coach a sport that is kind of a young coach's game right now. Adams doesn't scream exciting or energy to incoming 18 year old kids I can't imagine.

Why would he leave for anywhere that might have anything resembling accountability?
Good question. Although Boeheim survived for a long time at Syracuse by and large to his championship in 2002. That bought him a ton of good will there, even though he never really got Syracuse back to that level. I'm thinking they already named a replacement for Boeheim though, IIRC.

I think the days of the hardass coach are over. The players have far too much power to put up with being treated poorly. They can transfer easily to anywhere, they have social media to expose problems. And they have higher expectations of being treated decently.

Coaches who just bully and scream and "don't you know who I am?" their way through the day - will not thrive long in any one place.

One more reason to be on Team TJ. He seems to let the guys know there are high expectations, but treats them like grown ups wrt meeting those expectations. Not just yelling and threatening them. That's harder to do that it sounds, or we'd have a lot better business management in the world.

I thought Syracuse named that Autry as his replacement? I didn't think the job would be open.

Autry is their man. However, it has just been introduced as interim. But I believe it will be more official as time goes on. He’s going to kick ass over there much like Rodney Terry at Texas.

I don't think what he said was great, but not bad enough to be fired. This has been building for a while with other things going on (like spitting on a player). I also get the feeling Tech was looking for a reason to get rid of him too.
Also pressure from boosters as he makes a ton and the team has been unimpressive.

There was more to it than that. National guys like Fran have alluded to problems inside their program without directly stating what it was.
