Huh? He talked a lot about not being able to cover pick and rolls and not rebounding. Those seemed to be his primary concerns. They also discussed how they were going to cover the upcoming opponents three-point shooting. The entire article almost entirely focuses on defense.
I guess we all see what we want to.
I just see a team with a defensive efficiency rating at 75th in the country. Somehow even worse than last year's team.
Did you guys even read the article? They're clearly focusing on defense, but the players aren't executing. I'm not a Prohm sunshine pumper, but I agree with him. Sometimes, you have to have "some stuff to ya".
So are you commenting on the substance of the article or just posting random comments? Because the article focused almost exclusively on defense. I guess I've learned in the last two weeks to not respond to your posts. Something not clicking upstairs.

I am a Prohm supporter and this article left me wanting more. I wonder how much time they spent working on the screen game as a % of the practice? They have been very very weak at setting picks, with the exception of maybe Solo -they are not interested in setting a solid screen, for 3+ years now. And then meanwhile a lanky (scrawny) big from Directional Community College sets a pick on us in a game and will completely stymie our guy(s). Without fail, our guy will be out of the play completely as he struggles to get around it. I really believe half of our guys don't know how to set a proper screen, or how to step over a screen. It seemed like that's all we did in high school practice -that and rebounding. I think with all the AAU the focus is just not on screening or rebounding anymore (I won't even talk about our boxing out abilities) -and I just wonder if at this level the coaches maybe feel it's beneath them to spend time and force the guys to really work on something so fundamental.
I went to the father/son camp a couple of years ago and had a great time. I was disappointed though how little they worked on fundamentals. We spent nearly an hour (of our maybe 90 minutes of "drills") working specifically on 3 point shooter closeouts. Run out to the shooter in a good (low) defensive stance with one hand up and one to the side and run in place. The only thing Prohm talked to us directly and led us about was on this drill, how important it was to not fly by the shooter and leave the scene. It was great for my 10 year old son to learn this and a good refresher for my aging game. As we then have watched every game these past seasons since that day -we have been shocked as we have rarely seen an ISU player close out properly on a 3 point shooter. 80% of the time if we have someone in the area (often they are wide open but that's another day's topic) -we will fly by the shooter -often completely out of bounds and of no help for rebounding. On 3 point shots we are always 4 on 5 for rebounding -1 guy is always taking himself out of the play, without fail.
I think the coaches assume these kids have learned these skills they should have learned at age 10, when most of them (like LW for example) obviously haven't. For such a good coach it's frustrating to watch such simple things being ignored and, while maybe not addressed during the game loudly, possibly not even during closed doors? I'd love to see a practice and likely my fears would be squashed. But I sure didn't read anything on that to give me fuzzy feel goods about the strategic intelligence -including never seeing a play before that a lowsy team ran? Yikes -lol.

I think you have beef with the article author and not the coach. I read the article and it never approached at any time a "behind the scenes" look at this program.
Agree. It’s a bit disjointed with some inconsistent movements. It looks like he should miss.
So Based on this comment I assume you were supportive of Prohm when Lard wasn't getting many minutes because he was getting abused on pick and roll and the percentage of shots at the rim skyrocketed with him in the game. I will hang up and listen.

sounds to me like the team isn't performing up to his expectations, shooting and defensively. he was missing his on court coaching presence, and everything started going wrong. getting beat by 30 at wvu felt like this. we couldn't do anything right.

No. Big supporter still, but he used up a lot of currency with this one. I have said as long as there is more good than bad I'm there. And if it gets GMAC level bad.....find someone else. Well.....that was GMAC bad. I know, no TH, new year's eve, bad team. Still......have to show up. And that's on coach. I saw this team in the holiday tourney........that team wins last night by 50. So I know it's there. If this continues to be GMAC bad.....then it would be prudent for JP to part ways quicker than they did with GMAC. My thinking, and hoping(not for SP for ISU)is this is it and what we saw in the Bahamas will be more the rule than the exception. If not.....and what we saw last night becomes the norm.....I don't care how much I like SP.....ISU being successful means more.

Single game......maybe not. But losing to Drake and South Dakota State at Hilton in a matter of two weeks wasn't exactly a shining moment on the hill for ISU men's basketball. Those days we knew things were not going to get better. Thank everything for the Colorado's and Nebraska's of the conference. Like I said above......that kind of consistently bad play over this season has yet to be determined. They have proven they can beat someone with a pulse unlike Greg's teams. Going forward is where we all find out if effort last night is going to be the norm....or the effort we saw against the Hall and in the bahama's.
Agree. If that really happened that is extremely concerning from a coaching and leadership standpoint. Wow.
