Absolutely not for a remake, and I'm not getting a warm fuzzy feeling about Ghostbusters 3 either.

Dan Aykroyd Drops Significant Ghostbusters 3 Details

After years of rumors, it appears that Ghostbuster 3 is finally moving forward and will likely do so with or without Bill Murray's involvement. Dan Aykroyd appeared on The Dennis Miller Show to discuss the project, dropping specific details about the sequel, hinting that the plan is to film in Spring of 2012 no matter what happens casting-wise.

"Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray," he says, "That is our hope. We have an excellent ******. What we have to remember is that 'Ghostbusters' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of 'Ghostbusters 3' is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."

The comedian also confirmed reports that the plot will revolve around a new generation of Ghostbusters and hinted at the states of his and Ramis' characters.

"My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac," he says, "He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."

As for who might be cast as the new characters, Aykroyd says that, while no decision has been made, he does have a fondness for one piece of prospective casting.

"I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the 'Criminal Minds' show," he adds, "But there's going to be a casting. We're going to see everyone that wants to do it. We're going to need... three guys and a young woman."

Check back soon for more details on Ghostbuster 3 as they develop.

Just because Dan thinks it's a good idea doesn't make it one. Remember Blues Bros. 2000? Some stories are better left alone.

Did you read the interview though? Young blood? No need to change the guard. All I can picture is Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis handing the reigns to Jonah Hill or damn idiot like that. If it was Dan, Harold and Bill getting their Ghost fight on, I would be more into it but otherwise I am getting a 'Saved by the Bell: New Class' vibe.

Stupidest idea ever. Not every movie needs to be remade after 25 years.

Sadly, my generation seems to be defined by unoriginality and crippling nostalgia. Rather than create anything new, we recycle old things under the guise of "irony" and think it's cute and clever.

Ghostbusters meet Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein.

I saw Ghost Busters on tv a couple weeks ago and got me thinking about how awesome the Stay Puff Marshmallow man in the movie was.

Anyway i'm only 26 but I think this would be a great movie to be redone since it's been quite a while since the movie came out. I thought it would be cool if they could redo the movie and have cameo's by the original cast in the movie. Of course only if they do it well like unlike the last superman movie and get a good director and screenplay.

Anyway anyone else think this would be an awesome idea?

Is the kind of heresy uttered in the quoted post enough to get a user perma banned? I would hope so.

To many of you are concerned about the originals being ruined. I dont think you have to worry about that. The new star wars weren't as good as the originals but it certantly didn't ruin the movie.

You got to look at it like there rebooting the movies like Batman or superman

Yea, except Batman and Superman existed as franchise characters for decades even before their first movie series started. The Superman and Batman we know today are the product of years of different artists/writers/actors' interpretations. Re-booting them every few years makes sense and really isn't any different than somebody making a Hercules movie or something, even though lots of interpretations of that story have already been done.

Ghostbusters, however, was the product of a very specific point-of-view of the guys that wrote and starred in that specific movie. If even one of them, but especially Murray, don't want any part of a sequel or remake, it would be wrong to do it.

You obviously don't know nearly as many Star Wars fans as I do - that's a HIGHLY debatable opinion.

Thats why they should just try and reboot the movies without the original cast. Because it wouldn't be the same without Murray. I still say they should give it a try

I don't think you understood my point. Murray, Ramis, Akroyd are all still alive. If they're not all on board with it, those characters/concepts shouldn't be touched. Maybe they don't legally own Ghostbusters, but the idea still belongs to them. You can't compare it to Batman or Spider-man, because those ideas have belonged to a company, not an artist, for almost as long as they've existed. You can't compare it to Star Wars or Indiana Jones because in those cases it was

Now if all the original visionaries come out and say, we don't care, somebody else can do what they want with it, then more power to them.

I beg to differ.

A big part of the fun of the original movie is that it was original. Original ideas are fun to watch.

I've seen this idea. It's a classic. We can keep this one, and the 'creative' people can create something new. That's what creative people are supposed to do.

Exactly. I wasn't even very enthused with Ghost Busters 2. There is no reason to go there again.
