I knew I should have moved to northern Alaska where it's warm!!!
Keep in mind this is warmer or cooler than average temperature for that area so Nome being warmer than normal might still be colder than Iowa's colder than normal.

That being said, my brother in Anchorage is quite often texting me when he knows that it is colder in Minneapolis than it is in Anchorage.

Yes, I understand that. I didn't think I needed the sarcastic pirate, I thought the 3 exclamation points would get the idea across that I was kidding.

I heard on the news this morning about so many places are having record cold temperatures. Some states have received more snow than ever recorded. Many have set low temp records and a lot of places have set records for x amount of days under freezing temperatures. Makes me wonder why the most popular thread on this forum seems to be the one about "Global warming Deniers" It just goes on and on. God told Noah when he stepped out of the ark that there would be seed time and harvest, heat and cold until time ceased. I trust Him more than Al Gore. I would think Iowans would too.

There is a Cave version of this argument.

However, if you are getting down from the winter (and yes I'm very over it because it started earlier in southern Iowa than it did in Des Moines) take some Vitamin D. Multiple studies show it helps when you are not exposed to as much sunlight.

Hibernated for awhile this afternoon. Still in my pajamas. Seems still too light outside to start drinking. Turned on some smooth jazz and checking to see if pork tenderloin is thawed out. Not good to drink on an empty stomach.

Get this Negative Nancy, Debbie Downer, Meddling Mary bullcrap out of this thread

But on that note, I just saw Des Moines is scheduled for 4 more inches of snow Thursday as well.

And to make matters worse I was also just reminded through Facebook memories that exactly one year ago today I was chipping and putting on one of the range greens. I looked it up and the high on March 4, 2018 was 62. **** this, I tried staying positive.

Bought a bag or Hershey's Valentine's Day Kisses on clearance. Lost track of how many I have eaten tonight.

Oops, and now the bag is empty.

My wife and I just got back yesterday from an 8 day cruise in the Caribbean. We left Miami yesterday it was 83 degrees, when we landed in Kansas City it was 8 degrees. Swimming in the ocean, and soaking up the sun is exactly what I needed to get me through this winter. Some of the best money we have ever spent. If you ever go on a cruise, spend the extra money and get a private balcony, we both loved just sitting out on it, with a bucket of beer, watching the waves go by. Also if you ever get to St. Martaan, go to MOHO beach, its the one right by the airport, the planes are landing right over your head. Best beach we have ever been too.

-17 was a record low for Rochester, MN Monday morning. That is the FIRST record low I have seen set during the cold months (October to March) in my 11 years in SE MN. Two record lows were tied this season, Sunday morning and 11-18-18. We’ve also been to -29 and -30 this season, neither were records.

Let that sink in a bit.

Just by temperature... this winter is one of the most extreme of recent. Winters of the past (prior to 1980) were so much worse. Not to get political, but...

Images attached show the year current record low/highs were set or tied. Des Moines data isn’t too far off from what I stated for my area with only a couple record lows set or tied in the winter months in the last couple decades.

To parlay off that there’s actually a quantifiable index used to measure how mild or extreme a winter is. Des Moines has crept up into the “extreme” category in the last week. My area, SE MN is considered “severe” on the season, knocking on the door of “extreme”.

I’ve attached the charts but you can play around with the interactive chart yourself and learn more about the index and what goes into it here: https://mrcc.illinois.edu/AWSSI/chart.html?stn=USW00014925

Had a work trip to Florida and ski trip to SLC (even SLC was in the 50s), which were nice breaks. Also try to hit the sauna up at the gym for a few minutes a couple times a week. It's a grind and tough to look for positives. However, the days are getting longer and sooner or later it'll turn a corner.
