Game watch in Turin

This thread takes me back. I detasseled corn in Whiting back in the day.

My mom grew up there.

They still are holding on to the high school there, refusing to consolidate with anyone. I've heard that they have graduating classes of like, 6 students. Seriously.

LOL. These are towns where the people who come from there pound-for-pound drink more than anybody in America. There are some 100,000 person + suburbs I have been to that have less bars than these towns.

I think Carroll County mught have something to say about that...

For Ansco? I remember making $41 an hour one summer detasseling for them, tax free, contracting our own acres. Wish I made that much as an Engineer.

I think almost anywhere you go in rural Iowa (with the exception of a some pockets of morality) this is the case... Although I will say that we had a case race last winter in Ames. Teams were Northern Iowa (represent) v. Southern Iowa. Northern Iowa participants had to grow up in a county bordering Minnesota, Southern Iowa participants had to grow up south of hwy 92. It was a northern victory, but a well fought battle. Needless to say, a ton of booze was consumed very quickly and handily

I'm a big fan of small town bars. Where I grew up, the smaller the town, the more likely it was DRY:no:

Nope, it was for Wilson Seeds, out of Harlan. I did that for a few years and then got smart and me and 4 friends contracted acres on our own from Garst Seeds. Those were some great times actually. We made some good money and could take breaks when we wanted and throw tassels at each other. I don't know the exact aerodynamic properties of a tassel, but they flew pretty well.

First thought for me was Turin Italy.

Dang, boy's got some dedication.

There were people in Turin, Iowa before they were in Turin Italy. They have the archaeological dig to prove it. I believe there is still a speed limit in town also.

And that star on top of the hill was even there before that guy.

My hometown of Ute has maybe 350 people (if you count the surrounding farms) with 3 bars - actually 2 bars plus a restaurant but it has a lounge.

Yes, I've been to Sally's in Ute before... at least I think that was the name.

If Sally's doesn't have it maybe the AK Corral will dial it in. If all else fails you could head down to the Midway down in Soldier.

Spent my first 3 years out of college in the loess hills. Pretty country and great people. I went an married one of them-there hill country gals.
