Thanks so much to @Cyclones_R_GR8 for this thread topic:

“ How are your dreams, Scary, pleasant or just plain weird?
Do you have recurring themes to your dreams?”

I am going to let him share his, but it is really good.

I just have had recurring dreams over the years that I accidentally never quit the job I had in high school at a small supermarket in our tiny town, I suddenly needed to show up and work a shift after working my grown-up job. The dream just goes through that day.

How about you?

My dreams tend to be very random. Just stuff happens, nothing crazy, although usually incoherent plotlines.

I think the only thing recurring for me is I often dream of being back in college, but at my current age. And its like I was dropped in, because I am not completely sure where I am supposed to be or if I have studied, even though I learned the stuff ages ago. But even those dreams are never the same thing twice, just kind of variations on a theme. I'm just kind of wandering around I suppose.

I do occasionally have nightmares where I am being watched by aliens or other malevolent creatures outside the window while I am pretending to sleep. Because if I wake up and confront them, or open the blinds, or whatever, then "AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!" jump scare moment. And then I wake up for real in a bit of a panic.

GF used to have LOTS of night terrors, like multiple times a night. She is 99% over that now, fortunately. That freaked me tf out the first time witnessing one. She halfway get up, eyes open, like she just watched a murder and she was next, screaming in terror, and I'm trying to understand wtf is happening and trying to snap her out of it and reassure her. 1000x worse than the worse nightmare I have ever had.
0/10 do not recommend the night terrors.

Typically pretty tame dreams. But a few months ago I was having some trouble sleeping and someone suggested taking magnesium before bed and whooooooa buddy let me tell you I had some weird ones.

I have gone through quite a health transformation in the last year including cutting out alcohol due to some health issues popping up last July. I noticed dreams became much more vivid on the regular but not much difference in the "content".

I have several recurring dreams that vary in intensity.

1) I'm in college and it's finals week. I realize that there's a class I've completely forgotten about and haven't attended. The final is that day, and I have absolutely 0 chance of passing.

2) I'm going back to college as a non-traditional student and am forced to move into the dorms as a 30 something. I inevitably meet a girl, start dating, and then my wife shows up. In the dream it wasn't that I was intentionally cheating, it's that I had completely forgotten that I had a wife and family at home.

3) I'm in Ames for the first football game of the year. I never get to my tailgate on time, and then I can never find my seat in Jack Trice as the game unfolds. Jack Trice and Ames look completely different and unrecognizable in my dreams than they do in real life. I just "know" that I'm there.

4) I am somewhere where a tornado is bearing down on my property. I'm trying to get things squared away before it hits. I always wake up before it hits.

Whenever something super random or weird pops up I like looking it up to see if there is some deep meaning behind it and typically it's pretty accurate in relation to maybe things being 'off' in real life.

I've also had dreams about people that have passed away being there and came away assuming it was them visiting me.

Re: the ones about college: I've had several where a final was due or I was late to it, etc. and have had dreams about a former job with some weird paper work that wasn't done.

It's always a relief that I don't have those lingering things to deal with in my current life.

I have the exact same dream you do in #1 above. Probably about once a month. That's kind of wild.

This. It comes time for the finals, I never once attended the class and I'm worried that if I flunk, I won't graduate "on time".

Also, get to school and have no clue what courses I've signed up for.

Recurring dreams for me involve missing a flight...just can't get packed in time or get to my gate on time.

Also have a certain recurring foreign "city" in my dream (not a real one) and I recognize all the tram stops.

Used to have dreams about being in an elevator that revolved in a circle until I realized that I was probably turning over in my sleep. Don't have those anymore now that I know why I had them.

Sometimes dream about looking for a restroom and never finding one that I can use. That probably is my brain telling me not to p*ss the bed. Thanks, Brain!

That's really wild about the college dreams....

I, too, have had dreams where I am back at ISU living in the dorms at my current age. I also have dreams of being in high school and I cannot remember my locker combination and all of my stuff is in there.

I think it's a pretty common dream.

Most of my dreams are a riff on the idea of me forgetting some extremely important thing and having to eat the consequences, which is very consciously one of my chief fears in life.

I've had the back-at-college dream throughout the years, but not as often recently.

Similar to others, there usually is a class I somehow forgot to attend and don't realize it until it's at least mid-term.

I think the only one I've had in the past decade, I enrolled in grad school, and within only a few weeks, I realized, this isn't gonna work. It's possible I quit my job to do so, but details are hazy. The main anxiety, I was afraid to admit it to my mom that I wouldn't be able to finish.

I don't know if in the dream context it was my current age (which would've been maybe in my late 40s/early 50s) or if it was set when I was in late 20s, just a few years removed from undergrad.

I used to have a variation of that a lot when I was younger.

Basically, I'm going somewhere that's a few hours away for a function of some sort (often a leisure activity), I have plenty of time to pack & prepare, then I can't find articles of clothing or other items I need, or I pack some things then change my mind and replace with something else. Eventually, it's obvious I won't be able to arrive on time for the event, usually the dream ends before I know if I depart at all.

Somewhat related, also not as common theme as it was a few decades ago: I'm on the HS basketball team (which I was in real life), we travel to an away game, and I realize I forgot to pack my shoes and have to try to find a shoe store at 6 p.m. on a Friday in a small town --- or I brought the wrong uniform. In one dream, our bus made a stop partway through the trip to the venue, I hung my uniform on a hanger in a restroom, then left it there.

My recurring dreams for the last 5-10 years have been coming out wherever and my vehicle is no longer where I parked it. Then I have to start wandering around looking for it. Sometimes I find it in some random other spot, other times it magically reappears where I originally parked it but most of the time I never find it. I've actually gotten out of bed on more than one occasion to check on my vehicle.

Prior to that I would always have dreams that I am backing my car up and it won't stop no matter how hard I press the brake. I eventually wake right before I hit something or start to go off some sort of embankment

I've had versions of each of those.

I've had the teeth falling out dream that is pretty common. It's an anxiety thing apparently. I've had a few of dreams about college finals and not going to class. I once dreamed that I had planned a whole wedding that was that day however, there was no one to marry.

Probably my most common dream is one right before I wake up where I sort of know that I'm dreaming but sort of don't. It's always fairly realistic and it is usually distressing and I wake up pretty upset. (About 20 years ago I had a friend pass away, I got the call early in the morning and I was asked to call our other friends. I started making the calls and all of a sudden I thought that I must have dreamt the whole thing and I was calling all of these people for no reason. It took me looking at my caller ID to realize that it was real.)

Remarkably similar to your first one. I'm getting off work and can't find my car to go home. I decide maybe I parked in some other lot and walk over there. Then think, hey I drove the other car (sometimes it's a car I haven't owned in 30 years) and try to look around for it.

I also have the one about looking for a bathroom and their either all opposite sex, or aren't where they used to be. Or they are closed. Or I walk in and the toilet is not in the stall, it's been removed. I wake up and yes, I have to get up to pee.
