Friday OT #2 - Shoulda Been A Contender

I'm going to let my geek flag fly here a bit...

Says the girl with the Lord of the Rings meme for an avatar.

Yeah, we knew you were a geek.

Threads like this make me realize how few movies I've really seen.

There are a LOT of Oscar winning movies I've never seen nor ever will. Many Best Picture winners are dramatic and have some far reaching importance. I prefer just being entertained by movies.

Lost in Translation is a slow movie and I know it's not for everybody. That being said, the relationship in that movie just seemed so realistic and genuine (and the fact that I could've totally seen my wife sending carpet samples to Japan) that I was totally charmed by it.

Gionanni Ribisi's character is clearly a portrayal of Spike Jonze, who was Sofia Coppola's husband at the time. Ribisi and Johansson's interactions in the film are Coppola's personal accounts between her and her husband, who was dealing with his own success after directing Adaptation. They divorced the same year that film came out.

I fell in love with Charlotte right along with Bob when watching that movie.

Here's my man card - take it.

Well said. If I watch a movie, it's usually to get a chuckle and over the past decade or so, most of what I watch is with my kids so I've pretty well removed myself from anything too hard hitting.
