Friday OT #1 - Whatcha Got

I have a compass that was my maternal Grandfather's.

There is a note with the compass. I think the compass was given to him by his parents, probably in the 1930's or so.

The writing is a bit difficult to read, but the last sentence is something like this:

"Will help to keep the compass needle of thy soul
Turn to the North Star of a great ambition"

I have a piece of the Berlin Wall somewhere laying around. My Aunt was their serving when they tour it down.

In the mid 90s to early 2000s, we used to go to NASCAR autograph sessions, plus hang out at the track during practice, qualifying and go to the races. I have an album full of autographed cards, pictures we had taken - printed to 8x10 and autographed; a NASCAR flag with over 30 autographs, a few die cast cars and our boys had their own autograph books. My youngest son would get bored during the races and one year we stood near the gate to pit road just to watch the business. One of Jeff Green's pit crew gave my son a lug nut off the race car.

Otherwise, I have my Grandpa's WWII Bomber jacket, one hat and some of his medals. Plus the cleats he wore while he was in high school in the 40s, back when helmets were made of leather.

A good friend of mine has (from his grandfather) an official Nazi flag and German soldier pins he brought home after WWII. His grandfather took the pins off dead German soldiers and grabbed the flag off a flagpole as the Allies were advancing and victory was imminent. Kinda chilling.

This is more of a 'Could have had' item, but my father had 2 1952 Mickey Mantle rookie baseball cards in perfect condition when he was younger. When he left for the military, his mother threw them out. One card recently sold at auction for $12 million. Kind of sickening to think about, but I suspect a lot of mothers threw out those cards and that's why they are worth so much today.

I still have my original NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) in working condition, along with ~ 35 games circa 1985-1990. Included are Super Mario Bros (NOT the Duck Hunt paired version - just SMB by itself) & Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Some have original boxes.

I don't know if they're worth much, but sure are fun!
